Sheeps in Bangladesh

I have previously written two separate articles on cows and buffaloes among the livestock in Bangladesh. Although they were short essays, I tried to give enough information about these two animals. Today I want to write about another new livestock. And this beast is the sheep.

বাংলাদেশের গৃহপালিত গবাদী পশুর মধ্যে এর আগে আমি গরু এবং মহিষ নিয়ে দুইটি আলাদা আলাদা প্রবন্ধ লিখেছিলাম। যদিও সেগুলা ছিল ছোট ছোট প্রবন্ধ, তবুও আমি এই দুইটি প্রাণী সম্পর্কে যথেস্ট তথ্য দিতে চেষ্টা করেছিলাম। আজকে আমি আরেকটি নতুন গৃহপালিত গবাদী পশু নিয়ে লিখতে চাই। এবং এই পশুটি হল ভেড়া।

At one time it was thought that sheep was not very suitable for the climate of Bangladesh. So no one usually wanted to think of keeping sheep. But later it was found that keeping sheep would be beneficial in many ways. So, sheep rearing was not common in Bangladesh a few decades ago, but now it is seen everywhere.

একসময় মনে করা হত ভেড়া বাংলাদেশের আবহাওয়ার জন্য খুব একটা উপযোগী নয়। তাই কেউ সচরাচর ভেড়া পালন করার কথা চিন্তাও করতে চাইতো না। কিন্তু পরে দেখা গেলো যে, ভেড়া পালন করা অনেক দিক দিয়েই লাভজনক হবে। তাই আজ থেকে কয়েক দশক আগে বাংলাদেশে ভেড়া পালন সচরাচর দেখা না গেলেও এখন প্রায় সব জায়গাতেই ভেড়া পালন করতে দেখা যায়।

Although sheep are seen to be reared for commercial purposes in some places, two to four sheep are seen to be reared at home in rural areas. It is an easy way to earn some more money along with other income at the end of the year.

কোথাও কোথাও বানিজ্যিক উদ্দেশ্যে ভেড়া পালন করতে দেখা গেলেও, গ্রামীণ অঞ্চলে বাড়িতে দুই চারটা করে ভেড়া পালন করতে দেখা যায়। এটা বছর শেষে অন্যান্য আয়ের পাশাপাশি আরো বেশ কিছু টাকা আয়ের একটা সহজ মাধ্যম।

Although beef is the most delicious animal meat in Bangladesh, lamb is the most expensive. The price of sheep's milk is much higher. And mutton and milk are very nutritious. So the demand for sheep is much higher in this country. Moreover, we all know how to make different winter clothes from fleece. As a result, a lot of money can be earned by selling sheep's wool.

বাংলাদেশে যেসব পশুর মাংস সচরাচর মানুষকে খেতে দেখা যায় তার মধ্যে গরুর মাংস সব থেকে সুস্বাদু হলেও, ভেড়ার মাংসের দাম সব থেকে বেশি। ভেড়ার দুধের মূল্য ও অনেক বেশি। এবং ভেড়ার মাংস এবং দুধ খুবই পুষ্টিগুণ সমৃদ্ধ। তাই এদেশে ভেড়ার চাহিদা অনেক বেশি। তাছাড়া ভেড়ার লোম থেকে শীতকালের বিভিন্ন পোষাক তৈরির কথা আমরা সবাই জানি। ফলে ভেড়ার লোম বিক্রি করেও অনেক টাকা আয় করা যায়।

এখানে যে ভেড়া গুলো দেখছেন, সেগুলো একজন মানুষের। তিনি প্রতিদিন বিকেল বেলা ভেড়া গুলোকে মাঠে খাওয়াতে নিয়ে যান। মাঠে খাওয়ানোর সময় কোন এক বিকেল বেলা আমি এই ছবিটা তুলেছিলাম। ধন্যবাদ।
