A catastrophe called Privacy Invasion usually starts with "I have nothing to hide! You're paranoid" and ends with Google-ing a "what is ransomware" ...
LOL
This usually happens when I talk to the person about online security.
"I have nothing to hide, why are you so paranoid, do you think somebody spying on you, wanting your sexy photo, eh, so vain you are, or maybe you are a criminal."
Aw... you think that they want your sexy image?
They don't care, basically they think because they have no money online or they are poor, nobody will touch them. LOL
That's an exact reason why you should keep your identity under wraps, because if you are not wealthy, you are easier to harm, manipulate, intimidate and harass. Or rob. A thief, doesn't need to know how to rob you online, but can learn your habits, and pretty much rob your house.
"But, you are crazy, I am not so important! I am not rich. I don't have expensive things!"
I fix garbage, I know how much is your garbage worth.
"but online they can't take anything from me. I don't have bank online. No ATM card..."
You don't need to have it.
With two set of documents and in some services, only one document, a person can signup for a loan, and with your ID in their system they can set you up with some interesting issues. Or signup you up for some service and while interests are mounting for years, you are completely oblivious of your debt... and then you have thousand of dollars to pay and the file was concluded on court without you knowing anything or even being present, because the service company was sending bills on a post office box that doesn't exist... Just an example. And yes, it is real.
There is also a way to abuse email, phone, by tracking external browsing - with Twitter buttons and other Twitter auth , stats, whatnot, a statistic can be collected, other methods maybe you heard of it , or not, rooted phone auth also, gmail account, trojan, ... and that is only a top of an iceberg.
Gov doesn't need anything to track where you sending your junk and to whom, they use telephony towers on which an each smartphone is connected in every single moment. Also, a motherboard of your phone, is unique. Even with secret phone, these programs just need to overlap at few points until they verifies it is you mentioning sexy selfies.
And there is no person behind a console, everything is done automatically by a computer program.
Systems of control don't want your "sexy" image, they want a complete image of what are you about, so in case you say something or share something they dislike , they know where you live, what you do, who are your friends, what you aspire to, and in general, whoever has an access to your documents, identities, habits etc... can fuck you up in few more ways than you realize, and you don't even need to do anything in specific.
The fact you are a person and your existence can be used ... remember we are the only creature on planet that pays for own existence ... that is all that is enough.
And if you are not rich and powerful, you and anybody like you - 99% of population of a planet are economic slaves - can be put in a proper place and manipulated for any goal of any unknown interest, all that under extremely low cost and with minimal effort.
Only rich people can afford failures, because they are the ones who are behind it.
There are countries in the world where people can lose freedom or even a life if they find out about their online activity or if those people are even members of a page like Twitter, you can get arrested.
Even in United States people lost their financial security, job, personal safety because of something they said.
But, in case that you live off your shiny ego and don't care about toxic trolls, have a sponsor with a lucrative gravy train, have an exotic online profession or an income from mining imaginary diamonds, you also have to live live on a very edge of some unknown country and nobody fucking knows if you are a robot, demon, alien or a person, and you are born prepared ... you will be completely fine.
Much success. Happy Sunday.

The desire to maintain anonymity and protect privacy, obeys to multiple reasons and is totally respectable. I like to be private, I do not like to share anything of my personal life, I simply do my job of informing and raising awareness, without the need to be airing in networks every step I take, because that seems to me absurd, unnecessary and empty. In my case the message is more important than my own personal image, and that my message is received by whoever wants to receive it. I really liked your post, this is an issue that should never be dismissed.
