I have a huge passion for working with sea glass. I love one of a kind items and anything made with sea glass is truly unique due to the natural formation of it. The frosted texture associated with it is actually a collection of tiny dents from every time a pebble has bashed against it with the tide.
Collecting it is so much fun! It’s like treasure hunting and fills me with childlike excitement every time I am on a beach where I know I can find some special pieces.
My favourite place to collect is Seaham in the north east of England. There were art glass factories around this area who used to throw all their scrap pieces into the ocean at the end of the working day (resulting in the nickname specific to rare multi pieces found in this area, which is ‘end of day’ sea glass).
I started by making simple wire wrapped jewellery with the pieces that I found....
Eventually these more simple projects developed into my sea glass window sculptures, which look fabulous when the sunlight is shining through them!
Are you a sea glass lover? Let me know in the comments I’m always happy to meet fellow collectors particularly if you get as geeky and excited about sea glass as I do 😆
I see many of the things around me as metaphors and sea glass and it’s formation is a particularly beautiful analogy of life in my opinion..
You can find pieces on many beaches around the world so what are you waiting for! Get out there and find yourself some awesome treasures 😍
This is a very beautiful stone. I will love to hold one someday. Thank you for sharing
They are so beautiful and formed by nature which I love! Each piece contains the energy of the ocean I think that’s why I love collecting them so much Hope you find some to hold soon 😊
