I had some vegan biker boots which lasted me 20 years (and I wore them almost every day), they were also waterproof. Never seen a leather pair last as well.

Plants suffer if you cut them. so you should probably not eat anything......
if plants did suffer (which they don't because they have no brain) then how much more do you think animals suffer and apart from that the animals you eat ate 10 times the plants you could eat to produce one pound of flesh.
My boots are made of pleather, plastic compounds no more or less environmentally bad as the leather tanning process and longer lasting. Most of the things you use daily are made from the same stuff.
