Thanks. I looked up one meme generator and couldn't figure it out lol. Is it OK to just write over someone else's image though? Or do I need to use one I can get to via a meme generator.

....meme's are 'transformative' (the original message changed into something else) - so not copyrighted as such.

An alternative view (my own) - is that the digital age made 90% of media online, now makes digital copyright a ridiculous concept - totally unenforceable, and everyone can help the fight of getting rid of the outdated concept , by not giving a flying a fuck and make it impossible to enforce through sheer wight of infringements.

As Thomas Jefferson once said (paraphrasing here, off memory) 'My ideas are my own, but once announced, they belong to the world'

Copyright lawfare - as is - is a tool of the establishment controllers (to keep control and amass unearned wealth).

Imo - digital material - books, music, and digital art - 5 year copyright, then is free for all to do with what they like.
