Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition (Super Nintendo)

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition is a 2D fighting game developed by Natsume and released on the Super Nintendo in 1995. There were a number of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers related games on various systems but one unique thing about this one was that you didn't control the Rangers directly, instead you controlled their giant robots (Zords).

Fighting games like this were all the rage in the 1990s. It really started with Street Fighter II which saw its first home release on the SNES in 1992. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition was just like the millionth such game to come along afterwards. Fans of the Power Rangers show or fans of fighting giant robots in general may no doubt be tempted to pick this one up. However, it really isn't worth it.

This game is pretty mediocre as far as fighting games go. Things like the story mode and special moves are pretty uninspired. In addition, while the character graphics themselves are decent, the animation is rough, the backgrounds pretty boring and sound lackluster. It does, of course, have a two player mode so you can at least bring another person along with you to torture. As far as I know, this game was never released for any other system nor have there been any sequels.
