H.E.R.O. (which stood for Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operation) was a game released by Activision originally for the Atari 2600 in 1984. It was also released for the Commodore 64, Atari 8-bit line, Colecovision, Atari 5200 and a few other systems. The above screen shots are from the Commodore 64 which in my opinion was the best and probably the most popular version.

In this game, you guided Roderick Hero (R. Hero) through a maze of mines with his helicopter pack rescuing miners. Throughout the 1980s you could always count on Activision to provide some of the best games. This is one of those games that really made it feel like there was a huge world to explore. It reminds me a lot of Spelunker which was another favorite of mine on the Commodore 64.

I have great memories of play around on Commodore 64s back in elementary school!
