Time for some Healthy Sweets - Dates Sweets Recipe

in recipe •  2 years ago

It's festive season for we Indians and when it is festival time sweets are a must as a part of our traditions. It so happens that with all the sweets had during the festive season you cannot escape from adding on those few extra kgs to your weight. And be being extra cautious about my weight I had to think of something on the healthier side, which would not be a worry after eating. I came across a recipe on Insta and thought of making my own version with a little modification.

Let me share my Recipe of Dates Sweet Balls, which are very easy and fast to prepare, not only that they are super tasty and for sure healthy also, cutting out all artificial sugar.

Ingredients

  • White Sesame seeds
  • Flax seeds
  • Ghee
  • Milk
  • Jaggery
  • Dates
  • Almonds
  • Cashew
The quantity I do not have anything exactly defined, I just took it proportionately to the quantity of dates.

To start with Roast the Flax and Sesame seeds for 2 to 3 minutes. Roast till golden brown and not more, need to keep stirring for it to not burn out.

On the other side coarsely grind the almond and cashews

And then pix up the roasted sesame and flax seeds to the coarsely grinded almonds and cashews and add a spoon of jaggery. Mind it, do not add more of jaggery because dates are already sweet. Just a little touch of jaggery is good.

I bought ready Dates paste. Here in Middle East you get it very easily as dates is a big market in this place, else if you buy whole dates then you need to make a good paste of dates after removing the seeds.
Once you have your Dates paste ready in a pan add a spoon of ghee and roast the dates paste. 3 to 4 minutes is good enough.

Once that is done, add the flax and sesame seeds, coarsely grinded almonds and cashew mixed with jaggery, some raisins and a half cup of milk. Add little milk first and make a nice dough of the full mixture. Keep adding milk as required, it should not become very loose. Keep a little mixture of grinded almond and cashew separate for later use.

A little ghee will be required in the binding.

Once this is done, make small balls and then roll them in the left over coarsely grinded cashew and almond. This will give a nice look to the Dates Sweet balls.

And they are ready to be served

No stress of putting on those extra calories and surely very healthy. All my guests loved them. It was a wise decision made to go with this. On the first day festivities itself it got over. I saved a few for my own consumption, as I have a sweet tooth and this would be good to fill my craving :-)
