Randonautica experience - "This app is trolling us"

in randonautica •  2 years ago

In some of my Actifit posts, I mention the Randonautica, a traveling/exploring randomizer.

We had a few trips with the app, and I can say it is a strange experience, it does do something but it doesn't find you exactly what you mean.

I will describe our experience so far.

💥 Magical object

I described our first test of the said app, and it was successful. We intended to search for a magical object which should be connected to the celebration of the Harvest ( Autumn Equinox) and on a pinpoint we found a carved wooden figurine of the water mug, in a place that really looked very magical.

We deemed the trip successful because the item corresponds to the intent.

💥 Tools

The second trip I made with my husband, who - appropriately - asked for us to find a tool. I described a tool in petty detail and everything it can be done with it. On a pinpoint, we found a lot of tools, vehicles, and workers - as there was some road construction work done there.

We deemed the trip unsuccessful because the item and location didn't entirely correspond to the intent.

The next few intents we did in a single day, and it took us a few hours.

💥 Gold

This was my idea. Let's find something of value by description. The item should be gold or golden, whatever is the closest.

I saw people desperately trying to find money, but I don't think that a randomizer in any way manifests greed.

On a pinpoint, we found a green aisle with the clothes disposal container ( Kid: "How classy..." ) filled with bags and purses, many having GOLDEN colored chains and decorations.

We deemed the trip successful because the item correspond nearly to the intent.

💥 Moon Stone ( a crystal)

We passed through the multiple lines of stone carved staircases, an arch made of bright white stone, a fountain, next to a few buildings that had many parts made mostly of marble, and then on a pinpoint, we found ourselves inside of a semicircle yard enclosed by a wall made with big stone blocks.

We deemed the trip unsuccessful because the item did not correspond to the intended description.

💥 Cat keychain

It was already rather late and the app led us to an abandoned parking lot. On a pinpoint location shown by an app, there was a woman sitting on the ground with three snowy white Maltese dogs tied with almost decorative fancy chains ( leads).

My kid asked me what exactly I have envisioned because the situation at hand doesn't look like anything she hoped to find.
I told her I envisioned a pendant of a keychain having a picture of a snowy white fluffy cat with a necklace around her neck.

"Maltese" strikingly rhymes with "keys", my kid noticed.

💥 "I wish!! A PENDANT !! On a cat..."

The kid was disappointed so we tried one more time, and this time after a few discouraging "no location found" messages while my daughter was drawing connections between our wishes and descriptions... I finally growled "Damn it! I wish!! A PENDANT !! On a cat..."

And PING! - there was a new location. I hoped that an app finally understood us.

On a pinpoint, we found a ... Kid: "Great! Another trash bin..." - and yes indeed there was a metallic pendant-looking object right next to it. It looked like it was either something that belonged to a purse or it was a pet tag.

I quickly picked it up, turned it around, and after a eureka AHA-moment I shot my arm "2001: A Space Odyssey"-style to show it to my daughter. After a few notable moments of silence, my daughter said: "This app is trolling us..."

The front, face-side of a pendant featured the word "WISH".

Intent ... successful.

💥 Conclusion

I will not say anything to dis/courage you from using this app, because many people reported quite pleasant experiences.
It will definitely get you out of your routine and bring you much-needed refreshment - as long you keep your intent positive and happy.
People searching for money with this app didn't get their intent fulfilled. And of course, pronounced the app to be fake.
Some encountered much darker and more disturbing experiences.

Personally, I think it is working, but ... in a mysterious way.
For me, so far, it DID deliver, but a manifested intent was in some cases different from expected.
