Linux come in many shapes and forms. What all these Distros have common is the Linux Kernel. Other parts can be customized to be like almost anything. If you can think of a use case (even a silly one) there is most likely a Distro or multiple Distros for the job.
As Microsoft and even Apple are baking in spyware and bad UI/UX for to make more money, we can vote with our wallets and not spend any money on these Big Tech products. The open source alternatives have come a long way.
If you are looking for a Distro, my recommendation is to pick something Fedora based. They have most of the stability of Debian based Distros and most of the bleeding edge of Arch based Distros. The best thing is that there is no need to install Linux to try out Linux. If you have even an old USB drive, you can try out Linux in half an hour.

This is great. Right off the bat he addresses my biggest concern, that many people don't seem to care about, the dual OS problem. One of these days, I'll get my act together to start using Linux. Lots of helpful info in this.
