Artificial intelligence (AI) chat bots including Google’s Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT have been highlighted as potential job-killers. This will prove to be false, as AI will not only require human oversight, but will also serve to increase productivity and human capital inside of companies.
AI will help empower human employees. It’s a power tool similar to a drill. Investors will see the use of AI and automation as positive and provide more capital to grow businesses who use AI. Entrepreneurs will use AI to empower their operations and they will reap the rewards. There is no denying that AI and automation are disruptive technologies, but the increase in productivity will lead to a need for more employees.
Automated processes require human support. The example of the automated McDonalds that threatened jobs has not yet come to pass. Automation requires investment and industrial engineering efforts including studies to iron out the kinks. AI needs to integrated into existing systems, and anytime AI or any technology interfaces with the public, a lot of human support.
Anyone who has worked with machines understands they require humans to remain on standby and provide support. Kiwibots which deliver food autonomously require human drivers in case they become stuck while in transit. Robots must be trained and programmed to perform effectively, and that requires human support. The wide scale usage of robots and AI is a boon for workers.
Algorithms and automation have empowered me on the job. As a worker in manufacturing, robot arms and emerging material-moving robots are increasing productivity and expanding production. More productivity means more investment and ultimately more human labor. All the AI products and robotic automation requires the labor of software developers and hardware engineers supported by sales people, call center employees, marketing departments and much more. Human support will not cease because a platform like ChatGPT exists. The adoption of AI will help mature and streamline industries leading to more demand for workers.
