Who Do You Allow to Live in Your Heart?|| ¿A quién permites que viva en tu corazón? [ENG-ESP]

The heart is a very delicate part of man, it is a gateway to the human life. Everything we do, say and become is first conceived in the heart. This is the reason we are careful the things we allow in it.

Matt.12.43 - "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.
Matt.12.44 - Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order.
Matt.12.45 - Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."(Matthew 12:43-45)

In the United States, there is a law called Adverse Possession or Squatter’s Rights. If a building is unoccupied and someone enters it (though this is illegal) and takes up residence, the rightful owner of the house may have a difficult time evicting the stranger. They could actually lose possession of the home entirely as says my uncle who is now a UK citizen.

For example, earlier this year a couple purchased a house and then immediately went on a pre-planned 10-day vacation. When they returned, they discovered a family had moved into their new home and even changed the locks. When the couple called the police, they were informed of squatter’s rights and told it would take months for the case to proceed through the court to hopefully evict the trespassers.

Meanwhile, this family was living in a house they did not pay for while the owners were forced to make payments on a house they could not live in. If the squatters are able to remain in the home for 5 years, the house becomes theirs. It seems like a strange law, but many countries around the world have similar laws on their books. In Wales, for example, there is a law known as ty unnos which states that if a squatter can build a house in one night, they lay claim to the property.

All of these laws sound unfair to the people who originally purchased the property; however, they were created to prevent homes from becoming abandoned and falling into disrepair. Homes were made to be inhabited. When they are not, they soon crumble and collapse.

The parable Jesus gives in our reading today, follows along these same lines. As Matthew Henry once said, “Every heart is the residence of unclean spirits, except those which are temples of the Holy Ghost, by faith in Christ.” We are a dwelling which begs to be occupied. Jesus just finished declaring,

There can be no middle ground. In today’s reading, Jesus explains that a person may be cleaned of an evil spirit, and therefore be a house “put in order”. However, if they are not then filled with the Holy Spirit, the demon will return and quite possibly bring more with him. As Jesus said,

If we hear the Word of God and make an outward show, or a shallow commitment to reform, we are like the man who finds himself inhabited by spiritual squatters. Once they have established their claim on our heart, we are almost powerless in our own strength to cast them out. When we are set free from our sins, our vices, and our addictions, we have only one choice if we aim to remain free: allow God to fill us with His Holy Spirit.

The word ‘filled’ in Greek means a continual activity. We are told to continually be filled with the Holy Spirit. As Jesus explained, this prevents those old sins and familiar demons from returning and re-establishing residence in our heart. How much more painful the bounds of sin become after we have tasted freedom!

Don’t allow demonic squatters to fill your heart and mind. Instead, be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. Allow God to take up residence in your heart and mind and evict any thoughts that stand against Him. This is the only way we will be truly free.

El corazón es una parte muy delicada del hombre, es una puerta de entrada a la vida humana. Todo lo que hacemos, decimos y llegamos a ser se concibe primero en el corazón. Esta es la razón por la que tenemos cuidado con las cosas que permitimos en él.

Mat.12.43 - "Cuando un espíritu maligno sale del hombre, va por lugares áridos buscando descanso y no lo encuentra.
Matt.12.44 - Entonces dice: 'Volveré a la casa que dejé.' Cuando llega, encuentra la casa desocupada, barrida y ordenada.
Matt.12.45 - Entonces va y toma consigo otros siete espíritus peores que él, y entran y habitan allí. Y la condición final de ese hombre es peor que la primera. Así será con esta generación perversa.” (Mateo 12:43-45)

En Estados Unidos existe una ley llamada Adverse Possession o Squatter's Rights. Si un edificio está desocupado y alguien entra (aunque esto es ilegal) y se instala, el propietario legítimo de la casa puede tener dificultades para desalojar al extraño. De hecho, podrían perder la posesión de la casa por completo, como dice mi tío, que ahora es ciudadano del Reino Unido.

Por ejemplo, a principios de este año, una pareja compró una casa e inmediatamente se fue de vacaciones de 10 días planificada previamente. Cuando regresaron, descubrieron que una familia se había mudado a su nuevo hogar e incluso cambiaron las cerraduras. Cuando la pareja llamó a la policía, se les informó sobre los derechos de los ocupantes ilegales y se les dijo que el caso tardaría meses en llegar a los tribunales para, con suerte, desalojar a los intrusos.

Mientras tanto, esta familia vivía en una casa que no pagaron, mientras que los propietarios se vieron obligados a hacer pagos por una casa en la que no podían vivir. Si los ocupantes ilegales pueden permanecer en la casa durante 5 años, la casa se convierte en suya. Parece una ley extraña, pero muchos países del mundo tienen leyes similares en sus libros. En Gales, por ejemplo, existe una ley conocida como ty unnos que establece que si un ocupante ilegal puede construir una casa en una noche, puede reclamar la propiedad.

Todas estas leyes suenan injustas para las personas que originalmente compraron la propiedad; sin embargo, fueron creados para evitar que las casas se abandonen y se deterioren. Las casas se hicieron para ser habitadas. Cuando no lo son, pronto se desmoronan y colapsan.

La parábola que da Jesús en nuestra lectura de hoy, sigue en esta misma línea. Como dijo una vez Matthew Henry: “Todo corazón es morada de espíritus inmundos, excepto aquellos que son templos del Espíritu Santo, por la fe en Cristo”. Somos una vivienda que pide ser ocupada. Jesús acaba de terminar de declarar,

No puede haber término medio. En la lectura de hoy, Jesús explica que una persona puede ser limpiada de un espíritu maligno, y por lo tanto ser una casa “puesta en orden”. Sin embargo, si no están llenos del Espíritu Santo, el demonio regresará y muy posiblemente traiga más consigo. Como dijo Jesús,

Si escuchamos la Palabra de Dios y hacemos un espectáculo externo, o un compromiso superficial de reforma, somos como el hombre que se encuentra habitado por ocupantes ilegales espirituales. Una vez que han establecido su reclamo en nuestro corazón, somos casi impotentes en nuestra propia fuerza para expulsarlos. Cuando somos liberados de nuestros pecados, nuestros vicios y nuestras adicciones, solo tenemos una opción si queremos permanecer libres: permitir que Dios nos llene con su Espíritu Santo.

La palabra "lleno" en griego significa una actividad continua. Se nos dice que seamos continuamente llenos del Espíritu Santo. Como explicó Jesús, esto evita que esos viejos pecados y demonios familiares regresen y restablezcan su residencia en nuestro corazón. ¡Cuánto más dolorosas se vuelven las ataduras del pecado después de haber probado la libertad!

No permita que ocupantes ilegales demoníacos llenen su corazón y su mente. En cambio, sean continuamente llenos del Espíritu Santo. Permita que Dios tome residencia en su corazón y mente y desaloje cualquier pensamiento que se oponga a Él. Esta es la única forma en que seremos verdaderamente libres.
