Matt.16.1 - The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would shew them a sign from heaven.
Matt.16.2 - He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red.
Matt.16.3 - And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
Matt.16.4 - A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed. (Matthew 16:1-4)
Those who choose to not believe will always claim the proof given is not good enough. Jesus had shown the Pharisees and Sadducees his power over nature (walking on water), life and death (raising the ruler’s daughter), sickness and physical maladies, his power to multiply food for the masses, to cast out demons, and to preach the scriptures with authority and knowledge none of them possessed.
The life and ministry of Jesus fulfilled every prophesy about the Messiah these religious rulers had ever read. Still, they demanded another sign. If Jesus had given them some other sign, surely this would not have been good enough either. They simply refused to believe. In direct contrast, we have the large crowds of mostly Gentiles hanging on his every word as they desperately presented him with their sick and tormented loved-ones.

What will it take for some people to soften their heart to the Lord? The signs of God’s existence are everywhere. Hardcore atheists, like Dr. Francis Collins, have set out to use science to disprove God once and for all only to find Him in every cell, every biome, every planet, and every living being. Why then, with so much evidence to prove God, do so many people still not see Him? Acts 28:26-27 explains,
“You shall indeed hear but never understand, and you shall indeed see but never perceive. For this people’s heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart , and turn to me to heal them.”
We cannot force people to understand. We cannot pry their eyes open so they see. We can take them to the feet of the cross, but they must make the choice themselves. Some, never will. Others may vow to never bend a knee and yet give up every argument when they come face to face with their Savior.
Jesus preached the same message to the crowds as he did to the Pharisees and Sadducees. He performed the same miracles. One group saw what the other refused to. We may never know how someone will respond to the message we share through our lives and our words, but that should never discourage us from sharing it.
The signs of the Truth are all around us. Romans 1:18-20 tells us,
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – His eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
Proof is all around us, but many blind themselves to it because they are comfortable in their sin. Don’t allow that to discourage you from doing what God has called you to do. Remember, though many of the Pharisees rejected Jesus, not all did. Nicodemus softened his heart and accepted Christ while his associates condemned him in a false trial. It isn’t up to us to manage the outcome of the gospel; simply to share it with all.

Mat.16.3 - Y por la mañana, Hoy hará mal tiempo: porque el cielo está rojo y bajo. Oh hipócritas, podéis discernir la faz del cielo; pero ¿no podéis discernir las señales de los tiempos?
Mat.16.4 - La generación mala y adúltera demanda señal; y no le será dada señal, sino la señal del profeta Jonás. Y él, dejándolos, se fue. (Mateo 16:1-4)
Aquellos que eligen no creer siempre reclamarán que la prueba dada no es lo suficientemente buena. Jesús había mostrado a los fariseos y saduceos su poder sobre la naturaleza (caminar sobre el agua), la vida y la muerte (resucitar a la hija del gobernante), la enfermedad y los males físicos, su poder para multiplicar los alimentos para las masas, para expulsar demonios y predicar el Escrituras con autoridad y conocimiento que ninguno de ellos poseía.
La vida y el ministerio de Jesús cumplieron todas las profecías acerca del Mesías que estos gobernantes religiosos habían leído alguna vez. Aún así, exigieron otra señal. Si Jesús les hubiera dado alguna otra señal, seguramente esta tampoco hubiera sido suficiente. Simplemente se negaron a creer. En contraste directo, tenemos grandes multitudes de gentiles en su mayoría pendientes de cada una de sus palabras mientras le presentaban desesperadamente a sus seres queridos enfermos y atormentados.

Qué necesitarán algunas personas para ablandar su corazón al Señor? Los signos de la existencia de Dios están en todas partes. Los ateos incondicionales, como el Dr. Francis Collins, se han propuesto usar la ciencia para refutar a Dios de una vez por todas solo para encontrarlo en cada célula, cada bioma, cada planeta y cada ser vivo. ¿Por qué entonces, con tanta evidencia para probar a Dios, tanta gente todavía no lo ve? Hechos 28:26-27 explica,
“Oirás, pero nunca entenderás, y verás, pero nunca percibirás. Porque el corazón de este pueblo se ha entorpecido, y sus oídos se han vuelto pesados, y sus ojos han cerrado; no sea que perciban con sus ojos, y oigan con sus oídos, y entiendan con su corazón, y se vuelvan a mí para que los sane.”
No podemos obligar a la gente a entender. No podemos abrirles los ojos para que vean. Podemos llevarlos a los pies de la cruz, pero ellos mismos deben tomar la decisión. Algunos, nunca lo harán. Otros pueden prometer nunca doblar una rodilla y, sin embargo, renunciar a todos los argumentos cuando se encuentren cara a cara con su Salvador.
Jesús predicó el mismo mensaje a las multitudes como lo hizo con los fariseos y saduceos. Hizo los mismos milagros. Un grupo vio lo que el otro se negó a ver. Es posible que nunca sepamos cómo alguien responderá al mensaje que compartimos a través de nuestras vidas y nuestras palabras, pero eso nunca debería desanimarnos a compartirlo.
Los signos de la Verdad están a nuestro alrededor. Romanos 1:18-20 nos dice,
“La ira de Dios se revela desde el cielo contra toda impiedad y maldad de los hombres que detienen con su maldad la verdad; porque lo que de Dios se conoce les es manifiesto, porque Dios se lo manifestó. Porque las cosas invisibles de Dios, su eterno poder y deidad, se hacen claramente visibles desde la creación del mundo, siendo entendidas por medio de las cosas hechas, de modo que los hombres no tienen excusa.”
La prueba está a nuestro alrededor, pero muchos se ciegan porque se sienten cómodos con su pecado. No permitas que eso te desanime de hacer lo que Dios te ha llamado a hacer. Recuerde, aunque muchos de los fariseos rechazaron a Jesús, no todos lo hicieron. Nicodemo ablandó su corazón y aceptó a Cristo mientras sus asociados lo condenaban en un juicio falso. No depende de nosotros administrar el resultado del evangelio; simplemente para compartirlo con todos.
