Come Like a Child|| Ven como un niño [ENG-ESP]

Matt.18.1 - At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
Matt.18.2 - And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
Matt.18.3 - And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matt.18.4 - Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Matt.18.5 - And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
Matt.18.6 - But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matt.18.7 - Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
Matt.18.8 - Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
Matt.18.9 - And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? We may not ask those words exactly, but human nature still sees life as a competition. It saddens me when this competitive living makes its way into our church family. Who deserves the greatest esteem, the respect of others? Is it the one who preaches; the one who teaches or sings. Could it be the one who sweeps the floor or pays the bills?

Is the greatest the one who remembers to pray or the one who sends letters of encouragement to all? Do we honor those who are seen more or those who hide in the background? Is there a place God designates as the seat of honor?

When asked who was the greatest, Jesus could easily have pointed at his own chest. Surely Christ is the greatest. He is the King of Kings. God the Father reigns supreme above all with the Holy Spirit by His side. All these he could have answered. Instead, Jesus chose a young child as his example. Had he mentioned God the Father or even himself, the fight would have raged on.

The disciples still would have fought over whom would sit beside Jesus. By choosing a child, he shattered their egos and pointed them back to what truly matters.

The innocence of young children is very rarely ever emulated by the mature. They are pure. Their love is indiscriminatory. However, a child holds no authority. Any power they have comes from the one who sent them. D.A. Carson commented,

“The child is held up as an ideal, not of innocence, purity, or faith, but of humility and unconcern for social status.”

Young children do not know if their parents are rich or poor, nor do they care. They don’t judge to whom they will play with by the status of their parents. Prejudice must be taught. Hatred must be planted in their hearts and cultivated by evil.

To be great in the kingdom of heaven, we must pluck out the weeds of discrimination and pride. We must stop caring if we receive the honor due us. We must not worry if the company we keep effects our social status. We must put the gospel first and our own desires last, realizing that we come and go at the bidding of our Heavenly Father.

Once again, Jesus challenges our perspective. When we place God in the place of ultimate authority and power, it doesn’t matter where we stand just as long as we are in His presence.

Matt.18.3 - Y dijo: De cierto os digo, que si no os convertís, y os hacéis como niños, no entraréis en el reino de los cielos.

Matt.18.4 - Cualquiera, pues, que se humille como este niño, ése es el mayor en el reino de los cielos. Matt.18.5 - Y cualquiera que reciba a un niño como este en mi nombre, a mí me recibe.
Matt.18.6 - Pero cualquiera que haga tropezar a uno de estos pequeños que creen en mí, mejor le fuera que se le colgase al cuello una piedra de molino de molino, y que se le hundiera en lo profundo del Mar. Matt.18.7 - ¡Ay del mundo por los tropiezos! porque es necesario que vengan ofensas; pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien viene el tropiezo! Matt.18.8 - Por tanto, si tu mano o tu pie te fuere ocasión de caer, córtalos y échalos de ti: mejor te es entrar en la vida cojo o manco, que teniendo dos manos o dos pies ser echado en la eternidad fuego. Matt.18.9 - Y si tu ojo te es ocasión de caer, sácalo y échalo de ti: mejor te es entrar con un solo ojo en la vida, que teniendo dos ojos ser echado en el infierno de fuego.

¿Quién es el mayor en el reino de los cielos? Puede que no nos preguntemos exactamente esas palabras, pero la naturaleza humana todavía ve la vida como una competencia. Me entristece cuando esta vida competitiva se abre camino en nuestra familia de la iglesia. ¿Quién merece la mayor estima, el respeto de los demás? ¿Es el que predica; el que enseña o canta. ¿Será el que barre el piso o el que paga las cuentas?

¿Es el más grande el que se acuerda de rezar o el que manda cartas de aliento a todos? ¿Honramos a los que se ven más o a los que se esconden en un segundo plano? ¿Hay algún lugar que Dios designe como asiento de honor?

Cuando se le preguntó quién era el más grande, Jesús fácilmente podría haber señalado su propio pecho. Seguramente Cristo es el más grande. Él es el Rey de Reyes. Dios Padre reina supremo sobre todo con el Espíritu Santo a Su lado. Todo esto podría haber respondido. En cambio, Jesús escogió a un niño pequeño como su ejemplo. Si hubiera mencionado a Dios Padre o incluso a sí mismo, la lucha habría continuado.

Los discípulos todavía habrían peleado por quién se sentaría al lado de Jesús. Al elegir a un niño, destrozó sus egos y les señaló lo que realmente importa.

La inocencia de los niños pequeños rara vez es emulada por los adultos. son puros Su amor es indiscriminado. Sin embargo, un niño no tiene autoridad. Cualquier poder que tengan proviene de quien los envió. DA Carson comentó,

“El niño se presenta como un ideal, no de inocencia, pureza o fe, sino de humildad y despreocupación por el estatus social”.

Los niños pequeños no saben si sus padres son ricos o pobres, ni les importa. No juzgan con quién jugarán por el estado de sus padres. El prejuicio debe ser enseñado. El odio debe ser plantado en sus corazones y cultivado por el mal.

Para ser grandes en el reino de los cielos, debemos arrancar las malas hierbas de la discriminación y el orgullo. Debemos dejar de preocuparnos si recibimos el honor que se nos debe. No debemos preocuparnos si la compañía que mantenemos afecta nuestro estatus social. Debemos poner el evangelio en primer lugar y nuestros propios deseos en último lugar, dándonos cuenta de que vamos y venimos por mandato de nuestro Padre Celestial.

Una vez más, Jesús desafía nuestra perspectiva. Cuando colocamos a Dios en el lugar de máxima autoridad y poder, no importa dónde estemos mientras estemos en Su presencia.
