Matt.15.29 - And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
Matt.15.30 - And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:
Matt.15.31 - Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
Matt.15.32 - Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
Matt.15.33 - And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
Matt.15.34 - And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
Matt.15.35 - And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
Matt.15.36 - And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Matt.15.37 - And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
Matt.15.38 - And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

After Jesus’ interaction with the Canaanite woman, we may be led to believe that Jesus shied away from Gentiles except in specific cases. Today’s reading dispels that thought. We are told that Jesus traveled along the Sea of Galilee and went up to the hills. Galilee was a predominately Gentile region. When we compare this with Mark’s gospel, we are told a bit more detail.

Mark 7:31-37 records the same event. In his account, Mark tells us that Jesus traveled through the region of the Decapolis. C. Campbell Morgan tells us, “These people were most probably heathen or semi-heathen, gathered from the region of the Decapolis.” It is here, surrounded by Gentiles, that Jesus healed many and fed 4,000.
He is speaking of these non-Jews when he declared that he had compassion on them and would not send them away hungry. He still looks at the heathen with compassion. He still offers healing and spiritual nourishment for all who come, and all who are brought to the feet of Christ.
It is at the feet of Christ that we find healing. It is at the feet of Christ that we find new life, forgiveness, guidance, and acceptance. It is at the feet of Christ that we are taught, encouraged, and challenged. It is at the feet of Christ that we must lay our friends and loved ones down.
Christ won’t shy away from those we love simply because they are not Christians. He won’t leave them unfed because they don’t follow the rules. He beckons for us to lay the lost, the struggling, and the defiant at his feet. He has compassion on the broken.
Most importantly, he has the power to make them whole again. Let us lay those we love at his feet. Let us lay ourselves at his feet because that is where healing begins.

Después de la interacción de Jesús con la mujer cananea, podemos creer que Jesús se alejó de los gentiles excepto en casos específicos. La lectura de hoy disipa ese pensamiento. Se nos dice que Jesús viajó a lo largo del Mar de Galilea y subió a las colinas. Galilea era una región predominantemente gentil. Cuando comparamos esto con el evangelio de Marcos, se nos dice un poco más de detalle.

Marcos 7:31-37 registra el mismo evento. En su relato, Marcos nos dice que Jesús viajó por la región de la Decápolis. C. Campbell Morgan nos dice: "Esta gente probablemente era pagana o semi-pagana, reunida en la región de Decápolis". Es aquí, rodeado de gentiles, que Jesús sanó a muchos y alimentó a 4.000.
Él está hablando de estos no judíos cuando declaró que tenía compasión de ellos y que no los despediría hambrientos. Todavía mira a los paganos con compasión. Todavía ofrece sanidad y alimento espiritual para todos los que vienen y para todos los que son llevados a los pies de Cristo.
Es a los pies de Cristo donde encontramos sanidad. Es a los pies de Cristo que encontramos nueva vida, perdón, guía y aceptación. Es a los pies de Cristo que somos enseñados, animados y desafiados. Es a los pies de Cristo que debemos poner a nuestros amigos y seres queridos.
Cristo no se alejará de aquellos a quienes amamos simplemente porque no son cristianos. No los dejará sin comer porque no siguen las reglas. Él nos hace señas para que pongamos a los perdidos, los que luchan y los desafiantes a sus pies. Él tiene compasión de los quebrantados.
Lo más importante es que tiene el poder de hacerlos completos de nuevo. Pongamos a los que amamos a sus pies. Pongámonos a sus pies porque ahí es donde comienza la curación.
