He who was seated on the throne said, "I
am making everything new!"
Everybody needs a new beginning. After Jonah failed and ran from the call of God, we read, "The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time". He's the God of the second chance and a third, if you need it. When David failed so badly, he discovered there was "a fountain opened to the house of David for sin and uncleanness". The good news is you can start again! You can close the door on last year with all its pain and failure. The only place it can live is in your memory. The only power it can have over you is the power you give it. Paul says, "Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before".
If you're making resolutions, start small! Don't set yourself up for failure by saying "I'll pray two hours every day." My wife tells me the gym she goes to is full during the first week of January but almost empty by Easter. The ones who are still there will make it through the rest of the year. Staying fit isn't something you do short term, it's a daily habit and a way of life and it's the same spiritually.
You don't need new rules. What you need is a new relationship with God. So why don't you make that your number one resolution for this year?
