The 1st ODI match of the series was played between South Africa vs India yesterday at Boland Park, Paarl. South Africa defeated India by 31 runs to take a 1-0 lead in 3 match series.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first. Africa couldn't start well. Proteas striker De Kock had gone for 27 runs. Malan and Makram had also gone early. Africa lost 3 wickets for scoring 68 runs. Then Temba Bavuma and van der Dussen made a big partnership of 204 runs. Bavuma scored 110 runs in 143 balls and dismissed by Jusprit Bumrah. Van der Dussen remained unbeaten and scored 129 runs in 96 balls including 4 fours and 4 sixes. Africa scored total 296 runs by 4 wickets. Jusprit Bumrah picked up 2 wickets and Ashwin 1 wicket.
Following the 297 runs target India had a good start. KL Rahul had gone early at 12 runs but Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kholi made 92 runs strong partnership. Dhawan was dismissed by Maharaj at 79 runs in 84 balls. After Dhawan's wicket Kholi was dismissed by Shamsi at 51 runs. After Kholi's wicket there was a wickets rally in team India. One by one came out and gone without playing a responsible innings. Shardul Thakur remained unbeaten and scored 50 runs in 43 balls including 5 fours and a six.
Proteas bowlers performed well. Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi and Lungi Ngidi each picked up 2 wickets. Aiden Markram and Keshav Maharaj each took 1 wicket. Van Der Dussen was player of the match for his outstanding innings.
