In comparison to the enormous Philistine he confronted, David appeared feeble. Despite his infirmity, David was strong because he came in the Lord's name. He was a monstrous killer by God. If not, he would have been slain and relegated to obscurity throughout human history. As the Lord raised David from a sheep to a warrior, he was ready to serve as God's live sacrifice at this momentous occasion of either being vanquished or set free. David was pointing to someone greater—Jesus—who would grow up to be the world's Savior and become the great Shepherd who guides and loves His people. So that we can be freed by trusting in His atoning work for us, Jesus defeated the titans of sin, grief, and death. More than David, there was only Jesus.
I forget from time to time that the same thing that makes the Lord strong through me is my continual shortcomings. My worst days are those when I fight from a position of strength when I'm actually fighting a losing struggle against myself. I may fool myself into believing that I am occasionally winning battles in life, but this merely keeps me from seeing how defeated I really am. But when the Spirit enters my life and I surrender my pride and independence, the Lord will be able to trust me with His wisdom and humility. Paul tells me that I am weak because of my own strength and powerful because of my weakness. By keeping in mind God's faithfulness in saving me from sin and death, I am better positioned to receive His deliverance now.
For God to have a major influence in your life, you do not have to be strong or flawless on your own. Actually, He frequently highlights His strength via your inadequacies. By confessing your shortcomings to God, you let His strength show through your flaws and recognize your dependence on Him. He makes lovely for His glory out of what appears lacking. Your flaws make you eligible for His grace and strength, not something that disqualifies you. Have faith that He will work through your inadequacies and challenges to reveal His might and transform you into someone you never would have imagined. Give God's strength over your weakness.
God has great plans for using your shortcomings to strengthen you. He begins by teaching you humility, reminding you that it is not your own strength but His that keeps you alive. You come to rely on Him more and more when you encounter difficulties. God works on your character via your flaws, strengthening your forbearance, faith, and perseverance. He also uses your triumphant narrative to uplift those who are experiencing difficulties. By giving God your weaknesses, you allow His power to operate through you and turn your areas of struggle into evidence of His strength and grace. Have faith that He will use your shortcomings to further His glory.
