Hello guys today I'll be doing a movie review on a movie called "Stargirl" starring one of the more well known winners of America's got talent "Grace Vander Waal" and she's playing the titular star girl but surprisingly she's not the main character.
Star girl follows Leo burlock and the rest of his high school student body, when a girl shows up in the town name of Stargirl but this is anything but ordinary she floats to the beat of her own drum which begins to open up something dormant in Leo's brain and because of that he begins to fall for her zany quirks but is her different way that she sees the world threatening his normal life or should everybody else act a little bit like Star girl!
So here is my dilemma looking at all the released films from Disney plus it's not hard for me to see that a lot of what this movie does is better than the others, there's definitely a better eye for cinematography and editing for sure which actually makes this movie feel more cinematic than any of the other Disney plus movies and the inclusion of Grace van der Waal that was just a genius move because she cut a so well into this goofy zany character and because the music is integral to the progression of the plot it's some of the best music that I've heard from any of the Disney plus originals. The music itself isn't exactly original but the performances specificallyare well done and i won't be forgetting them for a very long time,it's without question that Grace van der Waal won America's Got Talent.
For a reason she stands out but to answer the question about it, its not a perfect coming of age film, it lacks significantly in the narrative as do most coming of age films our lead characters are hardly trying to do anything specifically and if they are, they don't really sense value in what they are doing.
This is one of the few original movies distributedon Disney plus, I doubt anyone truly care that much for the story or the characters past Grace Van Der Waals kooky Zany stargirl character and that's honestly too bad because they have potentially had something extraordinary here. There are really subtle but greatly technical things happening in this movie like I said before unfortunately I got to say there isn't much more that you can say about this film, that's the problem with coming of age, you can't say what the film is about cause it's not really about anything. You can only say what happens throughout the film.
I guess I'll cut this review short here and jump straight to the final score, my unbiased view is that this film is decent enough to receive a score of 72% and because I enjoyed the music and kooky nature of Grace, my experience wasn't bad either with a bias score of 76%, average together the final score comes out to 74%, all around it's not too terrible but I feel like it was that close to being pretty great but I like to hear your thoughts on stargirl on the comments section.
Thanks for reading!
