TOPIC: KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS
📖 TODAY'S TEXT:
Matthew. 14: 22-31

🖊️ COMMENTARY
Of the twelve disciples of Jesus, Peter was the only one that walked
on water. But, he was also the only one that sank while walking on water until Christ saved him following his cry for help. That means, the same Peter that walked on water also sank. Why? He removed his eyes from Jesus.
According to our text, Jesus was walking on the sea toward His disciples at the fourth watch of the night. He walked on the sea because the boat He was supposed to use had been driven "..a long distance from the land, battered by waves, for the wind was contrary" (v. 24). Since Christ had already decided to see His disciples that night, He chose to walk on the sea towards them.
But, His disciples became scared and cried out in fear shouting "It is a ghost!" As they saw Christ walking on the water, they didn't know it was their Master. Then, Jesus spoke to them saying "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid." So, Peter reacted and said, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on water." Christ said "Come!" And Peter got of the boat and walked on water towards Jesus.
However, no sooner had Peter walked on the water than he began to see the wind, became frightened and started sinking. Peter sank because his eyes were no longer fixed on the Master but on the boisterous wind and sea. The moment we remove our eyes from Jesus, we shall begin to see boisterous winds that will bring about our sinking.
Keep your eyes on Jesus; you shall keep walking on every sea no matter how great the wind.
