TOPIC: BLESSINGS IN SAYING THANKS
📖 TODAY'S TEXT:
John 5:5-14; Luke 17:11-19
🔑 KEY VERSE:
"So Jesus answered and said, "Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this stranger?" (Luke 17:17-19).
🖊️ COMMENTARY
The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines thanks as an exclamation "used to show that you are grateful to somebody for something they have done." Thank is a small word, but it does a lot of mighty works. Giving thanks motivates, encourages, pacifies, heals, opens more doors and blesses. Learn to say thanks and watch out for the blessings it attracts.
Jesus healed ten lepers. One returned to say thanks. Jesus said to him, "Arise, go your way. Your faith has made you well." This implies that the other nine were only healed of leprosy but their souls and spirits were not touched. The one that came back to say thanks, went back a new creation.
The man at the pool of Bethesda for 38 years was commanded to rise, take up his bed and walk. He could have rejoiced home but he didn't. Instead he traced his way to the temple to go and worship and give thanks. Fortunately for him, Jesus found him in the temple and said, "Behold, thou at made whole, sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee." This also means that at the first contact with Jesus, he was healed of impotency; at the second contact his sins were forgiven which is a higher blessing.
Form the habit of saying thanks. You may grieve some persons for failing to say thanks. You may close your door to receiving more for being thankless. You may not receive higher and better gifts because you are ungrateful. Learn to say thanks to all whether big or small. Most importantly be grateful to God always for life and other benefits. Give thanks in everything. Giving thanks attract more blessings.
