Exodus 18:13-27

"This thing is too much for you, you are not able to perform it by yourself" (Exodus 18:18).
🖊️ COMMENTARY
Jethro, Moses' father-in-law had rightly observed, that the task of leading and ministering to the people of Israel was quite enormous for Moses alone. He, therefore, felt an obligation to counsel him on the need to "select from all the people able men..." Ex. 18:21, to share the burden of leadership.
Unfortunately, many leaders- today still do not understand the importance of working in collaboration with other people. They prefer to do most of the work and shoulder most of the responsibilities within their organization. The Scriptures clearly teach that God intended a team of leaders to oversee and enable the functioning of every local Church. The tragedy is that many of these 'lone-ranger' leaders have collapsed under the strain and pressure of carrying the enormous work alone.
Jethro realized that God's work will only be carried out successfully and effectively, if the right team is brought together and each person in the team is released to do the work that God has called them to do. D.L. Moody said, "I would rather set ten men to work than do the work of ten men." The implication is that team members can achieve far more collectively, than they could if they all worked on their own -Deut. 32:30.
Jethro saw that Moses would soon wear down and advised him to handle only the difficult cases and let other wise leaders take the easier ones. Moses heeded this advice. He increased his efficiency, and together they accomplished much more work.
