Deuteronomy 6:4-9

🔑 KEY VERSE:
For I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but parents for the children" (2 Corinthians 12:14).

Children are gifts from God. They are blessings; assets and not liabilities as perceived by some parents. Parental responsibilities are indeed tasking but at the same time rewarding. Owing to the fact that one day same children will take over from their parents, every parent should brace up in undertaking the following responsibilities:

Provide for them (2 Cor. 12:14): Children are tender and helpless. Provide food, clothing, housing and other things that will enhance their
healthy living.
Teach them (Deut. 6:6-9): Children's minds are like plain sheet of paper, what you write on it, remains. Teach them everything that will make them to Succeed in life.
Train them (Prov. 22:6): It means teaching what to do and doing it for them to see. That is training.

Nurture them (Eph. 6:4): Nurturing means caring tenderly. Newly germinated plants are handled with care. They are nurtured till they become strong. That is how children should be treated. Don't maltreat, bully, abuse or neglect them. Though young, they deserve respect too.
Control them (1 Tim. 3:4): Don't allow them grow on their own. There should be checks.

Correct them (Prov. 13:24; 19:18): Apply appropriate correction or discipline when they err.
Love them (Titus 2:4): Love your children unconditionally. Don't abandon the child you brought into the world.
