TOPIC: MY JESUS CAN NOT BE MOCKED
📖 TODAY'S TEXT:
Matthew: 27:37-44
🔑 KEY VERSE:
"And when they had plaited a crown off thorns, they put it upon his head, and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!" (Matt. 27:29).
🖊️ COMMENTARY
There is no side to Jesus that is not beneficial. Whether you are praising Him in genuine adoration or mocking Him out of spite. His value will never diminish. Rather, His value will ever increase. The Bible says, "Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be end..." (Isaiah 9:7).
Think about this: In October 2019, The Punch Online broke the news that a rare painting done by 14th Century ltalian master, Cimabue, had
been discovered in a French Kitchen and sold for $26.6m (N42,954,744,000.00). The news in the matter was that the painting is a depiction of "Christ Mocked". Huge as the 2019 sales figure was, it was only the seventh highest ever reached for a medieval or old master painting. The highest figure ever also depicted Christ as the Saviour of the World (Salvation Mundi) attributed to Leonardo da Vinci sold in 2017 for $450m
(N726,678,000,000).
But none of these by themselves or put together will come near the value produced by the mockery which the Romans, Jewish commoners and leaders, and even thieves dished out to Jesus in person. After the shaming and mockery, Jesus emerged from it as the Saviour of the world. No financial value can be put to this. The wisdom in this is that until you pass through the gate of mockery, you may never enter the house of honour. When people mocked His Son Jesus, God turned it to merit for Him. As a child of God, there are some people who may find pleasure in putting you down, mocking your dreams and ridiculing your present. Just remember that your Master, Jesus, went through a worse ordeal but ended up in glory. Your story will also end up in glory. Instead of your value diminishing, it will increase and increase.
