TOPIC: CHILDREN ARE ROOTS
📖 TODAY'S TEXT:
Mark 10:13-16; 1 Sam. 16:10 -11
🔑 KEY VERSE:
"But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, let the little children come to me, and do not forbid them: for of such is the kingdom of God" (Mark 10:14, NKJV).
🖊️ COMMENTARY
Every tree has three major parts: the branches, the trunk and the roots. The branches are very visible and admired by men because they hold the leaves, the flowers and the fruits. The trunk is equally visible and it holds the branches, but the roots are hidden under the ground, not visible and never admired by men. If the branches of a tree die, the trunk can bring up new branches. If the trunk dies, the roots may produce new off-shoots; but if the roots die, both the trunk and the branches will surely die.
As tree roots are neglected and never admired by men even though it is the most important part of tree, likewise, children as roots have suffered the same fate since ages. Jesse did not present David for kingship nomination because he considered him a small boy who was unfit. In the time of Jesus, his disciples rebuked those who brought children to Jesus; meaning that only adults were qualified to come to him.
Brethren, this trend which has prevailed even till today must be corrected. Children have body, soul and spirit like adults. They need to be cared for, taught and guided. They need Jesus. Teach them everything good about life and lead them to Jesus. When you catch them young, you will be sure of tomorrow's church.
