Cebu City in the Philippines offers a plethora of food choices and food stalls to explore. While there are top-tier luxurious restaurants, there are also a lot of food stalls along the streets, and, there are also plenty of local options around the corner. Cebu City has a lot to offer, especially regarding cheap and affordable foods. I would love to take you on a mini adventure here on Pungko-pungko sa Fuente as I am experiencing it for the first time. In Cebuano, "Pungko" means sit, so you can enjoy your food while sitting around. I have been staying in Cebu City for a while now, and this is my first time trying it here. I am excited to try this booming social media trend. Let's give it a try and see what the fuss is all about!
Pungko-Pungko sa Fuente is located in 52 A J. Llorente St., Cebu City, Philippines. This is known to almost all Cebuanos.
This award is one of many that Pungko-Pungko Sa Fuente have received in the past. It was granted for being the best in Cebu, which was my first time trying this particular store in the city. I will provide an honest rating and let you know if it's worth the hype. The abundance of custom motorcycles parked outside during our visit caught our attention. The restaurant's affordability and extensive menu options make it a popular choice for diners. However, if you prefer healthier cuisine, this may not be the right place for you. All of the dishes served here are fried, so healthy options are not available.
The photos I posted above show that there were many customers who visited the place today, including students, families, and other individuals. The crowd may indicate that the place is worth checking out. During our visit, we even encountered people who spoke a different language and were not familiar with ordering food in Pungko Pungko Sa Fuente. Food is displayed, and customers can select their meals by grabbing a plate and a tong. Payment is made afterwards. The dishes are best enjoyed with hanging rice, also known as puso in Cebuano language.
One of the things I love most about Pungko Pungko Sa Fuente is how welcoming the people are once you arrive. They'll catch your attention by inviting you to eat at their station. There are numerous stations owned by different business owners, but all of them have the same orange uniform, making them look neat and presentable. The place is also clean, and there's even a second floor that customers can occupy. Although we didn't venture upstairs, we stayed on the ground floor near a doll. If you need something to add to your experience, there are plenty of options inside. The vendors are friendly and inviting, with each stall being cheerful and loud. Cebuanos are truly a happy people.
These are the foods that you can buy in Pungko Pungko Sa Fuente. I am unsure of all the prices, and I could not ask the vendor, but it's nothing above 100 pesos. We bought some ginabot or pig intestines for 25 pesos each. The pork chop is 50 pesos each, and I forgot the prices for the other foods, but it's nothing for 100 pesos each or more.
In my opinion, I would rate it a 7 out of 10. While the food is tasty, it's not the best I've had. One thing I'm not too pleased about is that the food is not served hot, and I prefer hot meals. This makes it not the perfect place for me. It would be better if there were an option to reheat the food, but unfortunately, there isn't. All the dishes on display are fixed, and there is no room for customization. Although I don't like cold food, the taste is good, and it goes well with the free onions and chili sauce. The hanging rice is a decent pairing, but I wasn't particularly impressed. However, considering the price, it's a good value for money.
While eating, I saw a hostel at the back of the Pungko Pungko Sa Fuente. It was just within the vicinity, and I saw it right next to the chair where I was sitting.
So after my meal, I asked for the hostel prices. I was intrigued that they also offer a hostel inside their vicinity. I don't know if it's a good idea because it's quite loud in the restaurant, so if you are in their hostel, I don't know if you will be hearing the loud noise or not, but perhaps not that much because most of the rooms are air-conditioned.
If you're interested in checking out the prices I mentioned earlier, I'd be happy to show them to you. The hostel is quite affordable, and one of its best features is its location - it's situated right in the heart of the city, near Fuente Osmeña Circle. This makes it an ideal place to stay, especially during the upcoming Sinulog Festival here in Cebu City. Of course, if you're just visiting for business or a vacation, I can't say for sure whether it's the right choice for you. However, if you're on a tight budget, this hostel is definitely worth considering.
It was a fun day indeed. Got a lot of discoveries and got to try it here for the first time. After we had our lunch, we headed to the work. Ciao!☺︎♡
