We had the last qualifiers for October in CONCACAF on Wednesday. All went according to what was estimated would happen, except for some reason the experts believed Honduras would beat Jamaica, didn't happen. The results were the following:
Home Team | Visitor | Score |
---|---|---|
Canada | Panama | 4-1 |
United States | Costa Rica | 2-1 |
Honduras | Jamaica | 0-2 |
El Salvador | Mexico | 0-2 |
How they stand:
Country | Points |
---|---|
Mexico | 14 |
United States | 11 |
Canada | 10 |
Panama | 8 |
Costa Rica | 6 |
Jamaica | 5 |
El Salvador | 5 |
Honduras | 3 |
The two favorites are in first and second place, Canada is quite comfortable in third and so far Panama is winning the right to the play off. Honduras as I expected is in last place, are we out? Well mathematically we still have a good chance, but we can't slip against our real rivals, we have to win all the games left at home and at least draw against the ones we visit, except of course USA whom I can see no way of beating.
Still our chances don't look good, I always have that faint hope that doesn't die until it is over, but realistically I do think our chances are not good. They did fire the coach, but I don't know who replaces him, and the new guy will have to start from scratch.
If the thing were decided by who deserve to go, I think the table is about right, those four teams are about the best we have in the area right now. Well we shall see what happens.
