The other day I walked into a bookshop in Jos, and I saw this section of books. In the whole of that section, it was the books of Dr. Myles Munroe. Myles Munroe wrote on several subjects. Nearly all his books are bestsellers.
When he started his career, he wrote these words.
“The wealthiest place in the world is not the gold mines of South America or the oil fields of Iraq or Iran. They are not the diamond mines of South Africa or the banks of the world. The wealthiest place on the planet is just down the road. It is the cemetery. There lie buried companies that were never started, inventions that were never made, bestselling books that were never written, and masterpieces that were never painted. In the cemetery is buried the greatest treasure of untapped potential.”
He said these words in the last sermon he preached before his death.
"When you die, die like I am planning to die. Empty. It is finished."
Myles Munroe is dead. He died in 2014 in a plane crash with his wife. Yet today, whenever I visit book shops, I see his books on shelves. Millions of people have bought these books, millions more will purchase them, and their lives will be better.
What is striking is that Myles Munroe lived up to his words. He died empty. He poured out himself through the words he left behind.
I have been asking myself, am I living in such a way that would make me die empty? Will I go to the cemetery with some of my talents still in me? Will I add to the wealth of the graveyard, or will I add to humanity?
I think these are questions we should each ask ourselves. They have monumental consequences.
