Teh rapidly increasing population may be a matter which can cause scare in the minds of all thinking people.
It is a kind of explosion no less horrible than the explosion of an atom bomb!
At the time India got Independence in 1947, it had the population of about 35 crore.
Now, it is inhabited by more than 120 crore people.
The world over population has greatly increased. It is around 700 crore mark at present.
It is also means that every 7th person in the world is an Indian. Population is increasing more than rapidly in developing countries than in developed countries.
It means industrialization or development is an answer to the rising trend in population.
India is second only to China in the matter of population. But India population is increasing much more rapidly than in China.
It is estimated by the demographers that within the next two decades India may overtake China in the matter of population.
There are several reasons for this rapid increase of population. One of the reasons is the improved health facilities.
These facilities have reduced the number of infant mortality and increased the life span. Another reason is literacy.
Many people, mostly in slum and rural areas do not have much knowledge of menas of family pplanning.
Still another reason is poverty. Many poor people want more and more children to increase the earning capacity of their family as they put their children to some sort of work at a very early age.
Child marriages and early marriages are another reasons.
It is very important that awareness should be brought about among the people to adopt the means of family planning especially, the traditionally and religiously minded people of poor families should be brought around to adopt these methods.
