There is a couple that sometimes hitch a ride with us so that they will not spend unnecessarily for a regular fair ride to and form the dialysis center and we are more than happy to assist them because there is nothing to it.

The patient was the husband and his wife is always with him during treatments. Yesterday they contacted my parents through call and text if it was my dialysis schedule for today so that we can pick them up waiting on the way to the dialysis center.

Our schedule often coincides together but the husband only gets a dialysis treatment once every week because his Kidneys somewhat still have a function although it is maybe recommended to get at least two sessions per week so he can feel well and clean, free of much toxins that actually affects the quality of life.

But they only have a limited amount of funds and basically poor, only relying on the husband's pension which explains the once a week session that he was having. The good thing is that he has still a little function of his kidneys and I hope that it will get preserved longer.

The wife is industrious enough to get some assistance for her husband's EPO needs so they have a relatively good stash of it. EPO or Erthyropoeitin Alpha/Beta is a hormone for the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. The Kidneys are the primary source of producing those when the body is sensing a high amount of carbon dioxide in the blood, the body will tell the Kidneys to let out the EPO hormone so that in turn the blood can oxygenate the blood more to balance the Co2-Oxygen ratio.

EPO injection for anemic dialysis patients will give a better quality of life in a sense that it will correct the anemia, give them more energy, strength, better sleep, and appetite for most patients. It also takes them away from the risk of blood-borne diseases brought about by blood transfusion.

That is why smokers have a reddish skin and high concentrations of RBC in their blood because of their exposure to Carbon dioxide which in turn make their Kidneys produce EPO. As for dialysis patients they do not have enough EPO in their blood so they suffer anemia and if not corrected will lead to death.

Now I am fortunate enough not to need it anymore because for some miraculous reason my RBS and hemoglobin doesn't crash which is why my insomnia is not worse then before although my appetite still remains poor. So I do not need anymore EPO, just some vitamins so that my body/bone marrow could produce healthy red blood cells and hemoglobin with it.

Today I was given a shot of EPO injection from my dialysis co-patient, I am much obliged and thanked them, maybe their way of showing appreciation and I am happy about it. @double-u
