We have to choose each morning whether to roll out of bed and take on the problems of the day or to curl up under the covers and continue sleeping for a little while longer. We also know fairly well what happens to the human body while it sleeps.

Nevertheless, have you ever wondered about the state of our soul when we sleep? When you fall asleep like a newborn, have you ever wondered where your soul might be? Religions all around the world offer varying interpretations and lessons about this event. We shall briefly examine the beliefs of three main global religions regarding what happens to our souls while we sleep in this segment.

A thorough discussion of the connection between our soul and sleep may be found in the sacred texts of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. The doctrines of the three major faiths have some similarities and some distinctions. View the descriptions of each one that follow.

Islam

Islam views slumber as akin to half-death. This is so because Islam tells its adherents that their souls return to the All-Powerful Creator of the universe while they sleep at night.

According to the Quran, Allah Ta'ala created man by infusing his soul into his body. The goal of this action was to sever man's bond with the Almighty. The soul departs from the body and returns to the Creator when a person goes to sleep.

In conclusion, Islam instructs its adherents to recite prayers to the Almighty for bestowing upon them the precious gift of life.

Judaism

Judaism affirms the connection between sleep and death, which is fairly similar to what Islam teaches its adherents.

Judaism teaches its adherents that when they go to sleep, their souls depart from their body and ascend to the Lord, much like Islam does. The distinction in instruction is in what occurs to the soul when it departs from the body while it is asleep. According to Jewish belief, the soul awakens from sleep by connecting with the Source, where it receives spiritual refreshment. When this restored soul returns to the human body, it becomes spiritually renewed.

Christianity

The term "sleep" in Christian traditions literally refers to the unconscious, regular state of the human body. Elsewhere, it serves as a symbol.

Once more, the idea is that sleep and death are related in the same way as Islam and Judaism have been described. Sleep is frequently characterized in the Old and New Testaments as a type of categorization for death.

The fundamental lesson is the same here: when you go to sleep, your spirit departs from your body and ascends to the Creator.

When it comes to how your soul and sleep are related, all three religions share certain common concepts. There are many teachings shared, especially between Judaism and Islam. Conversely, although the fundamental premise is still the same, the doctrines that Christianity espouses are a little bit different. This is mostly due to the fact that the term "sleep" has been employed in Christian texts to refer to a variety of concepts, such as spiritual apathy and sloth.
