Hello everyone, it been a while since I last visited this space. Well, I was going through a rough time and needed my space, but I’m back now. I’ve always loved mental health/psychiatry, so I thought of sharing an article on mental health but, I gave it a thought and hope that whoever runs into it will find it interesting. I would Love to write about a few mental disorders in episodes if you all find it interesting. In today's episode, Let's look into Mental health (definition and symptoms). I hope you find this first episode interesting, so we will talk interestingly about 7 very common mental disorders and I believe my ink won't fail me either.

World Health Organization (WHO) defined mental health as a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make contribution to his/her community. Mental health is important for emotions, thinking, communication, learning, resilience and self-esteem. It is also an important key in relationships, personal and emotional well-being and contributing meaningfully to the community and society. Mental illness/disorders according to American Psychiatric Association is defined as health conditions involving changes in emotions, thinking or misbehavior (or a combination of these). It is also associated with distress and/or problems in functioning in social, work or family activities.

People tend to be ashamed of their mental illness, but there is no need to be ashamed as is just like every other health problem and can be managed. If you or people around you show any signs of mental illness, go to the hospital and talk to the doctor.

NB: One or two of these signs and symptoms may not be as a result of mental illness but, when many occur persistently and ulter normal functioning at work, school or relationship with others it becomes a problem.
