If you want to earn more profit from farming at less cost, then change both the crop and the method. At the same cost, there will be good earnings in the next season. Ashok Rajgor, resident of Banaskantha, Gujarat, has proved this to be true. They have been farming for a long time. Were using chemical fertilizers for more production. Even after this, there was no significant income. Last year, he started onion cultivation naturally on 2.5 bighas of land. This year he has made a profit of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Ashok says that earlier I used to use chemical fertilizers. It involved a lot of expenditure, but the income was not commensurate with it. Besides, the quality of the farm was also harmed. After this, a few years ago I met Jeetu Vedani. He has been doing natural farming for a long time. He was the one who suggested me to leave chemical farming and turn to organic farming.
For the first time, onion was planted on half a bigha of land, profit was Rs 55 thousand.
Ashok says that I chose onion crop as natural farming, because it is prepared in less time and is in demand throughout the year. Besides, the cost is also less. In the first year, I planted onion on half a bigha of land. It cost about Rs 10 thousand. When the crop was ready and onions started coming out of the field, I started supplying it in the market. In the first season, I had made a profit of about Rs 55 thousand.
Today's positive news: Ashok of Gujarat started onion farming by spending 20 thousand rupees, made a profit of Rs 2.5 lakh in the first season.

Ashok started onion cultivation with half a bigha of land. Now he is cultivating onion on 2.5 bigha land.
When I earned money, I expanded my farming scope.
Talking to Bhaskar, Ashok says that he earned good income in the first season, so I expanded the scope of farming. Last year in the month of December, I planted onion on 2.5 bigha land. It cost about Rs 20 thousand. Cow dung manure was used instead of chemical fertilizer to reduce expenses. Now there has been good production of onion. Good prices are available in the markets and mandis. Profit is expected to be around Rs 2.5 lakh.
Ashok says that seeing my success, many nearby farmers have started cultivating onions organically. I have given training to 30 farmers.

How to cultivate onion?
Onion is cultivated on a large scale in many states including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, UP, Bihar, Gujarat. Since the demand for onion remains throughout the year, it is cultivated in both winter and summer seasons. There is no need for any special kind of soil for this. Before sowing onion, its seedlings should be prepared in the nursery. For this, first of all the field should be prepared well. Mix cow dung etc. in it and put seeds in it. For onion cultivation per hectare, 10 to 12 kg seeds are required.
The crop is ready in three to four months
Onion seedlings are ready approximately 45 days after sowing the seeds. After this it should be planted. For this, beds are made in the field. Saplings should be planted above it at a distance of 4 to 5 cm. After this, irrigation should be done by sprinkling water at regular intervals of 4-5 days. Onion leaves dry up after about three to four months. This is a sign of the harvest being ready. After this, onions start emerging from the field. That means, if you have started farming in November then the onion crop is ready in March-April.

Mathematics of onion farming and earning
Consider it like this if you cultivated onion in one acre of land. Production was 100 quintals. Suppose right now onion is being sold in the market at around Rs 40 per kg. In this context, the price of 100 quintals will be Rs 4 lakh. If we add the cost and remaining expenses to this, there will be a profit of around Rs 3 lakh. Along with this, many types of things are prepared by processing onion. For example, pickles, chutneys, spices, onion paste, sauces, onion powder. There is a lot of demand for such products in the market and its price is also good. That is, if you process onion along with farming, the profit will be double.
