Nowadays, the term “leisure” seems to be a luxury. We've got busy schedules and endless must-dos; it can be a struggle to find any dedicated me-time. And while we’re all granted 24-hour days), how many times do we actually utilize how much free time we have? Instead of just going down that social media/Netflix/TV rabbit hole — my personal experience is to say that we would benefit from putting those additional hours into some actually productive activities for ourselves.

Start a Hobby: Use your free time to pick up a new hobby. A hobby is something you do for the sheer joy of it – painting, woodworking, playing music, or writing poetry. Hobbies add purpose to free time and can lead to other opportunities and friendships, providing a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

Read: Reading is one of the best ways to utilize spare time. It not only adds to your knowledge but also enhances vocabulary and broadens your thinking. Choose reading material that interests you, be it fiction, non-fiction, adventure, thriller, or mystery. Reading takes you on a journey, expanding your mind and providing a different perspective on life.

Learn Something New: Any skill or information that captures your interest offers an opportunity to learn something new. With abundant internet resources, you can easily learn new skills or improve existing ones. Whether it's a foreign language, cooking, or any other skill, continuous learning stimulates the brain and opens new opportunities.

Exercise: Physical activity benefits both your mind and body. Use your extra time to incorporate physical activity into your day — take a walk, go for a jog, sign up for an online workout class, try yoga or meditation, or engage in any activity that makes you feel good and keeps you moving. Exercise de-stresses you, boosts your energy, and provides an overall refreshing effect.

Meditate: Use your leisure time to practice mindfulness meditation. Find a quiet corner, take deep breaths, and focus your mind on the air circulating through your body. This quick fix can alleviate stress, improve attention span, and promote overall well-being.

After all, free time is an expensive commodity. Using your spare time for hobbies, reading, learning, exercise, or meditation are just a few ways to maximize it. As the saying goes, “It is the only thing, in fact, there is no other,” highlighting that love and relationships are the essential purpose of existence, leading to a more fulfilled and fruitful life. So, ditch the habit of wasting free time. Next time you have some leisure moments, rekindle your passion and invest in yourself.
