Yesterday we visited Amba gallery in Kempenski hotel in Accra. I am usually not a big fan of the big corporate hotels esspecially since a lot of my work is with independent local hotels. But I must give it to kempenski that they really foster the local art community and do some great launches and events. We also stepped into Gallery 1957 which is an older gallery in the same mall. But they have a new space on the ground floor.
Amba Gallery is a new gallery it was having its first exhibition which ended yesterday. The artist is a photographer that experimented with some extreme color tones in an every day context space.
My girlfriend Dzigbordi was the model in two of the featured photos in the exhibition so it was a must visit for us before it finished.
On our way out on the parking garage level they have added a 3rd space to the already popular Gallery 1957. This had a painting display. The artist used a mix of oil pain, coco fiber for skin textures, and net sponge for clothing. It made for a very interesting effect.
