Since individuals in positions of control usually have major responsibilities to both the firm and its employees, power and leadership frequently go hand in hand. On the other hand, power abuse or misallocation can cause havoc with a company's operations. Business processes can be disrupted by immoral, unethical, or dishonest power plays, which can lower morale, affect productivity, and harm an organization's brand;

Abuse of Power for Personal advantage: Leadership positions can involve different levels of misuse of power for personal advantage. For instance, some may view it as a minor offense if someone uses a company car for personal errands or a company discount for personal shopping. Offering a high-level, well-paying employment to an unfit friend or relative or abusing one's position of power to obtain bribes from vendors and suppliers in exchange for awarding them lucrative contracts are examples of more serious infractions.

Unsuitable Delegation:
A leader may be accused of abusing their position of authority if they frequently assign duties and responsibilities of their own to subordinates. Using this strategy, a leader may find that his choices enable him to take credit for a successful conclusion if the assigned duties are completed effectively while avoiding accountability if a task or obligation isn't carried out as intended since it was outsourced.

Unsuitable Use of Authority :
When a leader utilizes her place of authority to praise or punish someone in a lower position based on her personal sentiments rather than their performance, this is an example of an inappropriate use of power. An instance of an unsuitable reward would be assigning a chosen task or assignment to a buddy instead of developing a system of measurement that looks at the credentials and experience of different applicants. Misuse of the power of punishment is exemplified when someone receives a poor performance rating because it is motivated by personal hate rather than an actual performance evaluation.

Abuse of Available Resources :
When a company's financial and human resources are mishandled, it is considered abuse of power. Misguided and costly misuse of leadership might be seen, for instance, in giving assignments to unqualified people or often approving overtime that is not needed. More severe instances include missing deadlines that lead to expense overruns or exceeding pre-approved budgetary constraints out of lack of planning or hubris
