Proposal - Blurt's alternative development

in polish •  2 years ago

Hello, I am Fervi. By day I'm a DevOps in a big company to develop free software at night. This is software that anyone can freely use for any purpose, without permissions.

Although they are different software, Blurt is also one of the projects I try to actively spend time on.

My goal is to create an organisation to develop Blurt. Of course, I will gradually strive for this as long as it is successful.

What have I achieved on Blurt?

BlurtLatam:

Probably the biggest project I am currently hosting is a modified version of BlurtLatam. BlurtLatam is an alternative interface to Blurt.Blog that does not include censorship. Unfortunately, the original BlurtLatam project is no longer being developed, so I've focused on improving what's there.

BlurtCreator

BlurtCreator is a website where you can create an account for free. It is inspired by other Blurt sites of its kind, but there is no charge. The project is open source, so you can be inspired by it :)

Hellobot

HelloBot is a project that posts daily entries with key data. It is unfortunately not fully finished, but it works ;) In the future, the idea is that it will present as much information as possible and the account itself will upvote your posts.

@hellobot

These are the larger and currently operating projects. Along the way I wrote Blurt2LN, which is a payment gateway for Blurt, but unfortunately the fall in the exchange rate has meant that support for this project has ceased.

CrossPoster was a project that allowed you to transfer entries from Blurt to Steem and/or Hive. Unfortunately a big FUD occurred and the project was closed down.

What am I currently doing?

BlurtSQL

BlurtSQL is a project to translate the Blockchain database into SQLite3. This will make it easy to browse the data (but without the content of the posts, as unfortunately, due to spam from Hive users posting pornographic images, I preferred to provide the database without content as a precaution).

In short, you will be able to easily see the latest accounts, recently added entries, recent transactions on the blockchain and so on.

The project itself is currently synchronised with Blockchain. If I haven't messed anything up then "some time" the database and some interface for communication will be made available. Unfortunately, making such a database takes some time, so please be patient.

CrossPoster-NG

I won't reveal much about this project, but in a nutshell it's supposed to get more people on the Blurt blockchain :) This is my current goal.

Promotion

I happened to write to popular services with Steem advertising (I started my adventure with the platform in 2017) which gave good results. I don't know if it will be possible to convert the promotion to Blurt, but I am working on something like that. Of course, it is not as big a project as Khrom, but it involves creating a few articles for popular Polish sites.

Blurtopian

This is a fairly finished project in the demo phase. I would like to complete it and collect feedback. In short, it is a project to support free software developers. They will be able to create entries and earn rewards, which they can use to develop projects or keep.

The project is inspired by Utopian.io, which has sadly died. Just the T-shirt I got at SteemFest reminds me of how great things were created at Steem.

LibreTibia

LibreTibia is a project-demo of an MMO game based on Blurt. At the moment we don't have much, apart from a trial server, so there's not much to promote. But I'll try to sit down soon and put together some tools for @dotevo to use to start creating the map.

Goals

I have various objectives in general in addition to projects. I would like to try to partially hedge Blurt against valuation drops. It seems to me that without this it is impossible to develop the project seriously. We cannot encourage shops to sell services through Blurt if shops lose, for example, 50% in one day.

Ultimately, Blurt has to be secure. Otherwise we can lose time.

I hope I have convinced you of my vision for Blurt and the proposals. If you have questions, of course, to ask. There are no easy paths to success.

Hello fervi, thank you for your contributions to Blurt. Currently, I’ve already built things for Blurt under the Blurtopian brand. Perhaps you can use another name for the project so that they don’t mistake my project with yours.

Hmm, ok. In that case, I need to come up with a better name :D

Any other particular reasons why SQLite3? I mean I know its embedded and lightweight, but what if you want to scale at a later time?

Thank you for your question.

Converting the database is not difficult of course. If someone wants to do it, at most I can do it. Looking at the structure of the database, this can be done very easily using sqlitebrowser, and you can probably do it from the command line too.

The assumption for me is that the database can be easily run on mine. SQLite3 in my opinion fulfils this perfectly.

Because, of course, I want access to be free for everyone (via SQLite-Web and the option to download the whole database), but I wouldn't be surprised if there are people who want to deliberately harm the project (via the web interface).

On the other hand, I am not ruling anything out.

You mentioned downloading, what size are we talking about for the database?

I estimate ~5GB without compression (and without comment body). I would also like to introduce temporary snapshots in the future. Someone may need data that is not necessarily current, but from a particular day. But that, too, is some time away.

And for the local database, some kind of update system needs to be carried out.

🥓

Can I sign in to Blurt.latam with My blurt account? Or do I have to start another account? (I looked at the signin and had no clue what to enter...)

In short, the same data that you use in blurt.blog

Humble thanks!

You do not need a separate account. You simply log in using your login and Posting Key.

Well, I'll see what I can do. Thank You so much!
