The Man Left Behind

in poetry •  3 years ago

You will hear a piece of mine,
So divine and so rare,
They said it didn't exist nowhere.
Let's go and start this now,
Your jaw will drop and you'll say wow,
Everyone on their knees it's time to bow,
I was born in a small city, made to rumble,
Buildings in my country would desperately crumble,
We found something new around the rubble,
In the end we got through a lot of trouble,
The means we're creative and the pay out double,
We didn't quit and hide in our bubble,
There isn't nothing special about this place,
But we got through tough times with moral and grace,
Of our old lives now there is no trace,
Nothing left in the depressing, burning space,
Our opportunities we just needed to embrace,
Like an ace out of a hat, we would need to be replaced.
Politics on the rise,
We knew it was our demise,
We were bought a long time ago,
For cheap money and fake glory,
Yeah world, that is our story,
Our history buried,
The heroes we carried,
All of that for nothing at all,
Our lives would change and we knew the call,
It was all for one and one for all,
Brothers in the same land ready for a brawl,
So in the end the debt was paid,
Our choices clear and made,
I choose to not leave and stayed,
Stardom is seductive,
Your morals become reductive,
Staying unproductive,
That choice was not me,
I knew the man I wanted to be.
