Growing pains, a Father's prayer.

in poetry •  2 years ago

I wrote this about 40 years ago and just decided to publish it. They have grown where I'm proud of them all!

Growing pains:

I hurry home to find only a house.
An empty, lifeless wooden shell;
Devoid of the beautiful laughter and trusting smile of my baby girl,
Devoid of the quick hugs and sage observations of my young son,
Devoid of the heart felt caring and dimpled smile of my life's partner!
Empty....

And yet if I love them as I do;
I must help them grow!
I must not allow myself to be the center of their universe;
Even though they are so much the center of mine!
For what is a daddy without his children;
And what is a husband without his wife?
Just an empty lifeless wooden shell, existing to remember better times past.

Lord, protect my family as they grow!
Bring them back;
And make this house again a home....

So today, Please celebrate life, Treasure the time GOD provides, and hug your families!

Be blessed, love them all, and be thankful.
