That Was A White Flag.

in poetry •  9 months ago

Once the battle was over I took my feelings

and my hopes,

and I locked them in a small coffin

wrapped in a white flag.

I buried it deep in my soul

almost reaching the bone.

I took thread and twine and closed the wound.

But the pain from the wound persisted.

The betrayal of tears and memories

They threatened to destroy the calm,

So I adopted the strategy of dissimulation,

I turned my smile into a shield

and I transformed indifference into a sword.

I knew you would believe the lie

I knew you would fall into the trap.

I had nothing to lose

death had already reached me

when I buried a small coffin

and a white flag.
