En posts anteriores les había comentado de posibilidad, cuando tenemos un terreno o patio pequeño, de unir frutales con plantas de jardín en armonía para que logren sobrevivir sin esfuerzo.

En mi caso se ha tratado de una acción fortuita ya que las plantas de fruta (dos naranjos y un mandarino) nacieron en forma natural. Y cuando esto ocurre es una suerte y a la vez un problema.

Una suerte porque las plantas nacen y crecen en su ambiente natural, sin transplantes de ningún tipo y por lo tanto las raíces se desarrollan en total normalidad, sin tomar aire, y crecen rápidamente potenciando la planta.

In previous posts I had told you about the possibility, when we have a small plot of land or patio, of joining fruit trees with garden plants in harmony so that they can survive effortlessly.

In my case it has been a fortuitous action since the fruit plants (two orange trees and a mandarin tree) were born naturally. And when this happens it is both a luck and a problem.

A luck because the plants are born and grow in their natural environment, without transplants of any kind and therefore the roots develop in total normality, without taking air, and grow rapidly enhancing the plant.

El problema se presenta cuando las plantas nacen demasiado cerca o demasiado lejos unas de otras (especialmente el problema se presenta en el primer caso).

Por razones de tiempo o por falta de conocimientos no las transplantamos en seguida y luego es demasiado tarde. En este caso debemos actuar enérgicamente con podas que le vayan dando a las plantas cercanas una forma tal de no estorbarse unas con otras dañando su crecimiento.

Una vez que hemos logrado este aspecto debemos pasar a disponer las plantas de jardín. Lo cuál no es tarea de poco. Mezclar plantas de bulbos como dalias con plantas que tienen una floración efímera como las amapolas con rosales y otras plantas de flor es una tarea que requiere mucho cuidado.

For reasons of time or lack of knowledge we do not transplant them right away and then it is too late. In this case we must act energetically with pruning that will give the nearby plants a way not to get in each other's way and damage their growth.

Once we have achieved this aspect we must move on to arrange the garden plants. Which is no small task. Mixing bulb plants such as dahlias with ephemeral flowering plants such as poppies with roses and other flowering plants is a task that requires a lot of care.

La dalia por ejemplo tiene un gran desarrollo de hojas, se expande y los bulbos se multiplican abajo de la tierra. Por lo tanto es aconsejable apoyarla en tutores y en tiempo de reposo (otoño-invierno) desenterrar una parte de los bulbos y conservarlos en lugar oscuro y fresco para poder retransplantarlos en la estación sucesiva.

Las amapolas en cambio crecen desordenadamente y gozan de una excelente polinización a través de los insectos, pero por sobre todo crecen en forma totalmente natural cuando el viento desplaza las semillas secas.

Si no están atentos pueden llegar a tener una verdadera selva de amapolas en el giro de poco años! Es necesario ralearlas un poco y para evitar esta dispersión aérea excesiva cortar el bulbo seco de la flor antes de que se abre y se desparramen las semillas o directamente arrancar una planta de dos.

It is therefore advisable to support it on stakes and in the dormant season (autumn-winter) dig up part of the bulbs and keep them in a dark, cool place so that they can be replanted the following season.

Poppies, on the other hand, grow in a disorderly manner and enjoy excellent pollination by insects, but above all they grow in a completely natural way when the wind moves the dry seeds.

If you are not careful you can have a real poppy jungle in a few years! It is necessary to thin them a little and to avoid this excessive aerial dispersion cut the dry bulb of the flower before it opens and scatter the seeds or directly pull out a plant of two.

Las plantas de frutales tienen una finalidad múltiple dentro del jardín.

Por un lado con sus flores y el delicioso perfume que emanan, recordemos por ejemplo que la flor del naranjo es la flor de azahar de un blanco inmaculado y con esa fragancia dulzona que tanto la caracteriza y por otro lado sirve de sombra protectores, especialmente cuando el patio no es demasiado grande y está circundado por tapiales, es decir la construcción en ladrillos o bloques de cemento que divide una propiedad de otra.

Al ser plantas grandes y robustas los frutales absorben mucho del calor del mediodía y primeras horas de la tarde protegiendo a las plantas más pequeñas.

Y por otro cubren con su suerte muchas plantas aromáticas de la huerta, de hoja casi permanente, como el oregano, el perejil, la menta etc. que sufren mucho el sol directo.

And on the other hand they cover with their luck many aromatic plants of the orchard, of almost permanent leaf, like oregano, parsley, mint etc. that suffer a lot from the direct sun.
