Typical English Gardening Tasks at the end of Winter / Start of Spring Season 🌱

Today I want to talk about some of the gardening jobs that need to be done at the end of Winter & "start of Spring" seasons. Here in the UK Garden calendar, Spring officially begins in just a few days! So let's get started with some common gardening tasks that are typically done at the end of Winter and at the beginning of spring.

  • Clean up all garden beds and flower borders:

Remove any dead leaves, branches, and debris that have accumulated over the winter. This will help prevent disease and pests from taking hold in your garden.

  • Prune shrubs and trees:

Remove any dead or damaged branches from trees and shrubs before new growth begins. This will help to promote healthy growth and also help prevent the spread of any diseases.

  • Plant new trees and shrubs:

Spring is a good time to plant new trees and shrubs. Make sure to choose plants that are suitable for your climate and soil type.

  • Start growing flower & veg seeds indoors:

If you plan to grow vegetables or flowers from seeds, start them indoors in late winter or early spring. This will give them a head start and allow you to transplant them outdoors when the weather warms up.

  • Fertilize & Prepare the soil: (Most Important).

Apply fertilizer to your garden beds and lawn to provide essential nutrients for healthy growth. If you plan to plant new flowers or vegetables! Prepare the soil first by adding rich compost and then other organic matter to improve the structure and fertility.

Remove any weeds that have sprouted in your garden beds. This will help prevent them from spreading and competing with your plants for water and nutrients. Lastly, apply a layer of mulch to your garden beds to help retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. This will also help prevent new annoying weed growth.

Depending on which Country you live in, these gardening tasks may vary on your exact location, climate, and what types of plants you are growing. As you can read from the list above there is a lot to do at this time of year. I have completed some gardening jobs, still have much more to do (if I'm honest about it). LOL

So here you go... 👀
