Lately I've been into photography using long shutter speeds. It's easier to do at night. You just put the camera on a tripod, set a slow shutter speed and shoot.
During the day, there is too much light for this method. In order not to light up the photo at slow shutter speeds, you will have to use special darkening filters. They're called ND filters. They come in different densities.
You can have several filters of different densities or one with variable density. For example 2-400. But for some scenes you may not want a value of 400. For example, if you want to get a deserted area in the daytime.... without people.
