Recently it's come to my attention that the UK, Ireland, and much of Europe is enjoying a very pleasant and warm summer. It's a great time to be outside, get some sun on your skin, and just be happy you're not freezing your ass off and the sun is not going down at 3:30 in the afternoon.
These photos below were taken the summer of 2018, when I stayed in Belfast Ireland for a week. Most people don't even realize how far north this part of the world is, and how crappy the weather is most of the year. I was there during the longest warmest summer days of the year. The sun would go down at 11pm and come back up at like 4am or something like that. It was the strangest thing.
I chose this photo as the thumbnail because it shows the tough Irish street attitude of these boys, as they try to get some much need sunshine on their pasty white skin.
Overall I love Ireland, but I wouldn't want to live here. Obviously the weather sucks nine months a year, unless you are into long dark dreary cold winters. Secondly I'm not wealthy enough to live there without having to get a job to make up for the extremely high cost of living. So Ireland was a great experience and it was nice to see the history and culture first hand. I wouldn't mind visiting again, especially the city of Dublin next time.
Now come along and lets have a look around Belfast in Northern Ireland, summer of 2018!
Here in South-central BC Canada, I'm almost as far North as Belfast, Ireland... but I'm not on the ocean so it's even colder here in the winters (and hotter in the summers). January is -35oC and July is +35oC. That's on top of the long dark winters!
Keep in mind, you've got fair skin, so the majority of your ancestors evolved in such climates! Fair skin is an evolutionary change in humans who lived far away from the equator (either North or South where seasons are amplified by the tilt of the Earth). It allows us to absorb sufficient vitamin D from the sun (except in the dead of winter when it's not strong enough to generate the necessary reaction when sunlight hits our skin). We're white so our immune systems stay charged (with vitamin D) even though there's less bright sunlight way up North. It works well for us when we stay in our dark parts of the world, but when we travel (or immigrate) to places that get more sun, we need hats, and long-sleeved shirts, and sunblock, etc.
I've been tracing my genealogy for a few years now, and I found quite a few branches of my tree came from Ireland. Also from nearby Isle of Mann, where humans have been indigenous for tens of thousands (or hundreds of thousands) of years - since well before recorded time! Look it up, I was shocked when I learned about it, since we're told by mainstream historians that humans are only indigenous to Africa. But we survived and evolved way up North, many eons ago, all through the ice ages. Those wild humans surely had fair skin, just as those in that part of the world do today. Picture that - completely white native humans, scratching out a living along the seashores of what is now called Ireland, Isle of Mann, and England. Many thousands of years before the pyramids of Egypt!
Hopefully I haven't upset anyone with those related facts, as that was not my intention.
Thanks for the sweet photos! Ireland has some pretty unique culture and history.
That is awesome! Thank you so much for the great addition to my blog post again. You really know how to add a whole lot in just a few short paragraphs. After watching that movie Northman I did a report on a few months ago, kinda near where your ancestors are from taken place like 800 years ago.....I was like no way these guys cam from the Congo! hahah
Anyway brother. That is some fascinating stuff, thanks again for taking the time. Much appreciated.
While you guys are enjoying the summer in your country, we are also enjoying the rainy season. A part of that is because Philippines is a tropical country and we need some coldness sometimes and rain is such a blessing.
That is great. I'm actually in Thailand right now....same part of the world as you. So yes, it's a bit rainy here as well. But thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment. :)
I personally like more sunshine and even a hot weather for that matter. @world-travel-pro, the bright surrounding really is like Coffee, it does uplift one's mood into a state of happiness compared to if the skies are always grey and the weather is cold.
So I guess that I am blessed to ever born in a country near the equator. But of course there is a cons about the hot days, it makes the people refrain from doing much work under the glaring sun and in effect affects productivity. That is why I was stopping my work if it is too hot, would sleep it off until the late afternoon although I do not see myself as lazy. 😁
For real crytpo pie! Sometimes it's just too hot to do anything in this part of the world. I'm mean like crazy hot. You'll literally get sick being out working in the sun some days.

Oh Thailand? That's closer to Philippines. Maybe you would also like to visit Philippines islands one day.
I have visited some years ago. Philippines is a great and beautiful country! :)
Oh I am surprised to hear that. From what certain place in Philippines?
I traveled around Cebu!
Oh that's really closer to my place. How surprising!

These pictures are amazing. I've always heard about Ireland but I haven't been there. It is mostly here in my country so summer is not a big deal😊
Exactly. Here in Thailand, it's summer all year long basically. Thanks for stopping by, glad you enjoyed the post.
