Yesterday I went to Waddesdon manor, to continue making the most of my National trust membership. Waddesdon Manor was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild between 1874 and 1885 to display his collection of arts and to entertain his friends. It is the most visited house the national trust has and this is no doubt due to just how opulent it is. Reactions to the house vary some people find it almost repulsive how much opulence and gold there is, some love it and some just find it interesting. Every room is insanely decorated with gold everywhere, elaborate furniture, art work and ornaments, even the ceilings are hand painted leather in some of the rooms. Every centimetre is opulent.
Part II coming soon what are your opinions do you love it or hate it?
This elephant is one of the most popular objects here; it was probably made in London by the French clockmaker Hubert Martinet around 1774. It plays four tunes and when wound its trunk, ears, eyes and tail move. Unfortunately it’s under repair at the moment so it doesn’t play but still very beautiful.

All that money, apparently they run the world but they can’t afford a few bags of Chlorine shock to get the algae out of their fountains ? Looks like it has been abandoned. I’m surprised it’s not covered in graffiti….
Well the rothschilds, or this branch gave it to the national trust, a charity in the Uk that preserves old buildings and land so future generations can walk around and see. The Rothschild’s do still pay for some of its upkeep. There are tons of other residences however, many still lived in I have a friend who’s been in one of them in New York for a party but this one is ran by the national trust for people to see.
I know …. but it’s difficult to see so much opulence when there is so much poverty in this world. So many people have absolutely nothing while Trump Towers, Mar-a-Lago and even the Vatican are all covered in gold...
Yes it is almost sickening in luxury they say the elite collect gold because of the power you can get from it connected o the earth but they are misguided because the true energy they want is within. But in this case they have handed it over for public enjoyment and no one lives there I don’t think anymore. I appreciate these places to give us a glimpse into old ways of living both rich and less rich.
Very creepy. Would make a good location for a horror film.
