After 3 1/2 years, I finally got my rescued and abused dachshund to jump up on my lap!

Von is a full sized dachshund that was too damaged to re-home when we rescued him three and a half years ago. It took me a week to get him out of his transport cage.

Some male (not a Man) tried to beat him into submission when he was a puppy! Dachshunds can never be forced to do anything, but if they want to do what you need; they will be willing to die to get it done. Beating an intelligent dog, only forces them to be untrustful of all humans. Von is smart enough to know that he was mistreated, and has an excellent memory!

I was first able to pet him with my feet:

Apparently his abuser didn't kick him, so feet were safer in his broken mind! After I petted him by foot for a year or so, he started letting me touch him some; and then scratch his ears. I had to teach him how to be petted, because he had never been!

When I tried to pet two handed he hid for days, so his abuser must have grabbed and thrown this puppy, to 'discipline' him!!!!

He lets me pet with both hands now, but that took six months. He comes up to me In the mornings, when he first wakes up, and gets lots of petting!

One thing I honestly never thought I'd see, is Von on my lap:

But today, he jumped up; and wanted petting! He stayed about 15 minutes, and got a lot of praise and adoration...and petting.

I offered him chips, and he turned his back on them:

He left the red and green chips on my lap, while soaking up the attention! When he got enough, he turned around; picked up these chips, and jumped down to eat them.

Tonight, I beat out food!!!!

And it only took three and a half years...but I'm patient, LOL. In another couple of years, he might sleep on my lap! I can dream...and he's a good singer (high tenor of course); so he's happy, and safe!

And, I have plenty of time....

He's been tough, but he jumped up 3 times tonight! Got praise and petting of course, and once he even layed his head down and stayed a while. 💗👍

I may end up with a lap dog.... 🐕‍🦺🐾🐕‍🦺🐾

Well done, it's harder to detrain than train and that was a big job. Your kindness and patience has paid off not just for you but for this poor little mite. Now just keep him away from vets and you've got a faithful friend for a long time.

He doesn't trust me enough to take to the vet. But I'll keep working on it, who knows...I may make it yet!

💗👍🐕‍🦺🐾🤕🙏

I meant DON'T take him to the vets!!!

No problem, he won't go; although I'm working to get him to ride in the car some!

He spends a lot of his time with his flag (tail) up these days...not tucked anymore!🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺

Sounds like a very sensible dog. Beautiful.

I have concentrated on dachshunds, because they are smart enough to know they were done wrong. Sadly they also Remember!!!

That's why this guy has taken so long....

But now:
