Antwerp Central Station… part I

in photography •  7 months ago

Since some of you enjoyed my initial series of photos from Antwerp (the Tunnel adventures), I've decided to take you on a new journey. This time, it's a visit to Antwerp Central Station. According to Newsweek, Antwerp Central ranks as the 4th most beautiful train station globally, and according to Mashable, it claims the top spot... I hope my photos will help convince you of that fact 😄

So, let’s kick things off with the first picture... when you arrive in Antwerp by train, this is what greets you...

As you can see, the architecture is a blend of modern and classical elements. The modern section, completed in 2007, encompasses underground platforms tailored for high-speed trains. Meanwhile, the classical components - the iron and glass train hall and the waiting room hall (in the background) - were constructed between 1895 and 1905. Fun fact: the train hall's 43-meter height was once essential for accommodating the steam from locomotives...

Stay tuned for more snapshots of this station...
