Weird but useful

It does look eerie, isn't it?

I'm not really sure what's happening with the stem of this vine but it seems like it's growing with fur-like features all over it. I've read through articles online and what I gather is that this could be some form of Aerial roots.

It's mostly common to vines where the majority of it is above ground. There are 2 main benefits to why would they grow aerial roots:

  • they serve as an anchor and use it to attach to a more stable structure
  • they are used to absorb moisture and nutrients

Nature is really amazing! Even on their own little ways to survive.

Cheers!
