Spear Phishing :

  • Spear phishing is a type of cyber attack that targets a specific individual or group of individuals within an organization, and tries to trick or lure them into revealing sensitive information or downloading malware, or unknowingly sending the authorizing payments to the attacker.

  • Spear phishing attacks are highly targeted, it is hugely effective, and is difficult to prevent the attack.

  • The ultimate goal of spear phishing is to infect devies with malware or by convincing by tricking the target to download link or a attachment and make the target into taking some action which may benifit the attacker.

  • The attacker requires research, which often involves acquiring personal information about the victim.

  • Spear phishing messages are often created with care using malicious social engineering technique and is difficult to safeguard against it with just mere technical means.

  • To prevent spear phishing attacks one must be cautious of emails or messages that ask for personal or financial information, even if they appear to be from someone you know.

  • The attackers disguise themselves as someone their victim trusts, like a friend or colleague, and attempt to trick and acquire sensitive information via email or instant messaging tools.

  • It is very important to keep your social media accounts private and to avoid sharing personal information online.
