This is a recent upload of a talk given by Jordan Peterson at the University of Cambridge in November 2021.
It is a topic on which I have written about: perceptions.
Absolutely crucial in this time of mass delusions - both created and absorbed - that there are some humans left who can both perceive correctly and articulate the truth of such perceptions.
The scam of propaganda, at its most basic level, is to remove the individual's personal perceptions (with all their problems) with a synthetic, false yet emotionally charged misperception. And that is dangerous to us all.
There are bad men. They're really bad and they're a minority of the population and they tear their way through overly agreeable populations. And to keep them from dominating you need good men who are also capable of being quite terrible.
And that also needs to be said - more often.
There again you go @rycharde. Charles Bukowski said that "the problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence".
I dare to say that the minority which are the really bad guys are those who are stupid yet full of confidence while the nice guys who are intelligent are damn full of doubts. Until these nice and good guys realize that they have a stake to salvage the situation of the larger population, otherwise the better world we all long for will remain a mirage.
Cheers @rycharde for this insight.
Thanks, I also added my own coda as a comment, as had only watched half of the talk at that point.
But this is both obvious and tragic for any group. From the POV of the group, this is the desire to be helped, the longing for a messiah, a vigilante, even a mafia, so long as they are protecting us. This is the con of Q and the myth of V. It is also why I am not a pacifist - and why I have also said that a good person doing horrible things to horrible people does not, just for those acts, become bad. The only historical examples I could fins are the Shaolin monks and the encoded Samurai spirit - even removing the myths, they remain rare ideals that did exist.
Yeah, Bukowski just states the deeply depressing Dunning-Kruger effect. One of the personality types I feel the most disgust towards is the loud moron. (I guess that's not a surprise to anyone)
Yeah, I agree with you on this. Because for me a good man doing horrible things to horrible people doesn't mount to making him bad. And am sure feeling disgust towards the loud moron shouldn't be a suprise to any discerning mind. Indeed, it is a fatal error to carry the potential of a lion and die like a rat. Cheers for enlightening me once again.
Peterson's final answer to his own question became rather compressed as he ran out of time. It is also obvious he has experienced his own Jungian psychodrama, and hence come full circle back to the source - his source. I have no elevated view of Christianity, or any other tribal mythology, and hence will try to rephrase his final thoughts in more universal terms.
The mastery of human perceptions is not the "will to overpower" (especially others), but rather the "will to power" in the sense of self-power. The purification of one's power, and thence the mastery of one's perceptions, takes place through transcendental experiences.
It is both a deep irony and deep tragedy that the deepest meaning of a human is to experience being superhuman. Only from such a vantage point is the air truly clean and the light truly clear.
Absolutely not the same as the trans(sub)human agenda. This suprahuman experience can be described in various ways, including Peterson's own "perceptions of divinity". There are also various levels, so without a map of human perceptions, people may well be describing things that are similar but not the same in terms of energetics or profundity.
As I said, the ending seemed slightly rushed, so please listen to Peterson's own words.

The answer to all these questions and more lies at the end of your dock, at the Cabin in Northern Ontario. 🇨🇦 Just watch out for the mermaids and women dressed like Lobsters. I liked his description of the Cathedral. I had the same experience at Chartres and Norte Dame in Paris.
Jordon Peterson reminds me of 'science'. He complicates everything pulling the simple message out of reach. I don't believe you fight evil with evil, it's the opposite. Know thine enemy yes, but you don't have to become the enemy to fight it.
